An inkjet printing device for printing to a recording medium includes a printing unit that has a plurality of print bars that respectively have one or more print heads. The printing device also includes a transfer printing sled to guide the recording medium, which can be moved into and out of a space below the printing unit. In a print operation state, the transfer printing sled is arranged in the space and guides the recording medium during printing. In a maintenance operation state, the transfer printing sled is moved out of the space. The printing device also includes at least one cleaning element for cleaning at least one print head of the printing module. In the transport direction of the recording medium, the at least one cleaning element is arranged laterally next to the space in the print operation state and in this space in the maintenance operation state.

A controller may detect an elevation of a recording medium that is to be printed to, the elevation may result in the printing element of a printing device being negatively affected. In aid of a predetermined calculation rule, a correction moment is calculated from the determined real value such that a damping of the vibration-capable system results like a mechanical viscous damper. In a method to execute a pause in an ink printing system printing operation in which a printing substrate web is printed with print bars having print heads, with aid of a take-up roller moving the printing substrate web at printing speed past the print bars in a transfer printing zone in order to generate print images. Upon triggering the pause, a strain state of the printing substrate web is measured at a beginning of the pause and stored as a desired strain state. During the pause, the strain state of the printing substrate web is measured as a real strain state at selectable points in time, and the real strain state is compared with desired strain state. Given a deviation of the real strain state from the desired strain state, at the selectable points in time the take-up roller is controlled so that the strain state of the printing substrate web assumes the desired strain state at the beginning of the pause. After an end of the pause, the printing substrate web is transported with the take-up roller at the printing speed again.

In a method or device to sample a web movement, an incremental encoder translates the web movement into two phase-offset output signals. A quadrature decoder generates first and second digital output signals with two respective signal levels. The first output signal is designated as a forward signal and the second output signal is designated as a backward signal. An evaluation circuit outputs a control signal and has a first counter that counts a signal change of the forward signal and subtracts from the count a signal change of the backward signal. A second counter counts a signal change of the control signal. A comparator compares values of the first and the second counters. A disabling device enables the forward signal if values of both the first and second counters are the same so that the forward signal is output, and disables the forward signal if values of the two counters are different.

In a printing system or method, two printing units apply printing ink onto a recording material, each printing unit having multiple apparatuses with a respective microprocessor controller. The microprocessor controllers are connected with one another via a respective data bus segment and each data bus segment has multiple data lines. The two data bus segments of the two printing units are connected with a bus switch. The bus switch has a data switch to connect a respective one of the lines of the one data bus segment with the corresponding line of the other data bus segment, a respective terminating resistor being provided for each data bus segment. The terminating resistors are connected with a respective terminating switch coupled with the data switches such that either all terminating switches are open and all data switches are closed, or all terminating switches are closed and all data switches are open.

In order to control the ejection of sheets from input compartments in a paper output device belonging to a printing or photocopying system, verification occurs as to whether a previously processed sheet has been removed as soon as it has been established that at least one input compartment is almost empty. Ejection of the sheet immediately following according to the order of processing occurs thereafter. These steps are repeated until the input compartment is empty. The printing operation is then stopped.
