An electronic device is described that is designed to be more easily recycled at its end of life while maintaining usability during its lifetime. The electronic device includes a first substrate, an encapsulation layer, and a set of electronics disposed there between. One or more delamination layers cover at least one side, preferably both sides, of the set of electronics to separate the set of electronics from at least one, preferably both, of the first substrate and the encapsulation layer. The set of electronics, covered by the one or more delamination layers, is encapsulated between the encapsulation layer and the first substrate. At least one of the delamination layers includes a set of passages filled with material of the encapsulation layer forming a set of interconnections between the encapsulation layer and the first substrate.

An electronic device () comprises an electronics substrate () with at least one light emitting device (), a cover substrate () with a graphical pattern including at least one window (), and a thermoplastic layer () there between. A multilayer laminate () of the device () is formed by combining the electronics substrate () and the cover substrate () by lamination with protruding electronic components () facing the thermoplastic layer (). At least the thermoplastic layer () is heated to a lamination temperature (T) for increasing a plasticity of the thermoplastic material (). The electronic components () are pushed by the lamination into the heated thermoplastic layer () for embedding the electronic components () in the thermoplastic material ().

Electronic device with multilayer laminate

In an embodiment, a method of manufacturing () is described. The method comprises providing () a first layer defining a first inner surface () and a first outer surface (), a second layer defining a second inner surface () and a second outer surface (), and an electrical component () positioned on the first inner surface or the second inner surface. The method further comprises attaching () the first and second layers together to create a device () comprising the first and second layers, wherein the first outer surface and the second outer surface define an external surface of the device. The device further comprises a sealed portion () defined by liquid-tight attachment between the first and second inner surfaces. In use of the device, the sealed portion prevents liquid ingress into the device between the first and second layers towards the electrical component.

A proximity sensitive display element () is provided that comprises a light guide (), at least one light emitting element () and at least one infrared radiation sensor (). The light guide () comprises a substrate () with a first and a second mutually opposite main sides (), respectively having a first and a second reflective layer (), with a reflective inner surface () facing inside the light guide. At least one window () is defined in the first main side to allow optical radiation to enter and to leave the light guide. The at least one light emitting element () is typically embedded in the substrate at its second main side to generate optical radiation in said light guide. Proximity sensitive display element

A light guide is described that includes a thermoplastic light channeling layer having at least a first segment, at least a second segment, and at least one groove dividing the thermoplastic light channeling layer into the first segment and second segment. The light guide further includes one or more light sources at least at the first segment. The at least one groove is shaped to block light from leaking between the first segment and the second segment. A method of forming the light guide is described that includes: providing a thermoplastic light channeling layer, thermoforming the at least one groove to divide the light guide into the first and second segments, and providing one of more light sources to at least the first segment.

Illuminating sections of a light guide with LEDs leads to unwanted light bleeding to other parts of the light guide. Furthermore typically LEDs are placed at a large distance from the area that couples out light from this LED due to a spike in intensity close to the LED. In order to avoid this spike being visible in the lit area the distance is increased which results in unwanted areal increase of the overall system. The present provides a layout to overcome these challenges.
