Materials and methods for PUFA production, and PUFA-containing compositions

Wax esters (WE) and triacylglycerols (TAG) can be accumulated in large amounts in plant cells. The present invention relates to insect pheromone precursors which are produced as components of WE or TAG in plants. Further the invention concerns means and methods for the production of plant cells producing WE and/or TAG containing insect pheromone precursors in form of either a fatty acid or a fatty alcohol. Said method uses plants where wax esters are modified by desaturase, fatty acyl reductase and wax ester synthase or the triacylglycerol is modified by a desaturase. Finally the insect pheromone precursors can be extracted and used in the manufacturing of insect pheromones from WE and TAG.

Production of insect pheromone precursors in plants

The present invention relates to the recombinant manufacture of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Specifically, it relates to acyltransferase polypeptides, polynucleotides encoding said acyltransferases as well as vectors, host cells, non-human transgenic organisms containing said polynucleotides. The invention relates to methods for increasing the oil content in plants, preferably in plant seeds, by expressing a polypeptide from yeast. The invention furthermore relates to expression constructs for expressing the yeast polypeptide in plants, preferably in plant seeds, the transgenic plants expressing the yeast polypeptide and to the use of said transgenic plants for the production of food, feeds, seed, pharmaceuticals or fine chemicals, in particular for the production of oils.

Use of a gene for increasing the oil content in plants

The present invention relates to a process for preparing unsaturated fatty acids and to a process for preparing triglycerides with an increased content of unsaturated fatty acids. The invention further relates to the use of DNA sequences coding for &#x394;6-acetylenase/&#x394;6-desaturases or &#x394;6-desaturases for producing a transgenic organism, preferably a transgenic plant or a transgenic microorganism with increased content of fatty acids, oils or lipids with &#x394;6 triple bonds and/or &#x394;6 double bonds. &#x394;6 acetylenase and &#x394;6-desaturase from ceratodon purpureus

The present invention relates to the use of a novel enzyme and its encoding gene for transformation. More specifically, the invention relates to the use of a gene encoding an enzyme with acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase activity. This gene expressed alone in transgenic organisms will increase the total amount of oil (i.e. triacylglycerols) that is produced.

Use of a class of enzymes and their encoding genes to increase the oil content in transgenic organisms

The present invention relates to a novel plant enzyme called delta 12 fatty acid acetylenase. This enzyme is responsible for the conversion of fatty acids to acetylenic acids and the invention relates to production of such acids. The invention also relates to use of cDNA encoding acetylenase, preferably,delta 12 acetylenase, for transforming organisms such as oil accumulating organisms selected from the group consisting of oil crops, oleogeneous yeasts and moulds. Furthermore, the invention relates to organisms such as oil accumulating organisms transformed with acetylenase cDNA, and to oils and other acetylenic compounds from said organisms.
