A toy building element comprising one or more first beam-like parts ( ) with a plane internal face and an external face, and one or more other beam-like parts ( ) with a plane internal face and an external face. The beam-like parts are assembled in at least one corner whereby two internal faces are caused to form an angle of less than 180&deg; relative to each other. At least the first beam-like part ( ) is/are provided with an opening ( ) that extends transversally thereto from the external face to the internal face, and the opening ( ) is arranged so far towards the corner that the plane for the face of the plane internal face ( ) of the second beam-like part ( ) intersects the opening in the plane for the face of the plane internal face ( ) of the first beam-like part ( ). The plane internal face ( ) of the second beam-like part ( ) is interrupted at a distance from the opening ( ) whereby a clearance is provided around the opening ( ) on the internal face of the first beam-like part.

A toy building set comprising toy building elements ( ) which may be coupled together to build structures. Some of the toy building elements are in the form of shafts ( ) and bushings ( ) which are capable of coupling other toy building elements together, as these other toy building elements are provided with coupling means which are complementary to said shafts ( ) and bushings ( ). The toy building set also comprises at least one tubular, elongated, flexible toy building element ( ) which essentially has a uniform cross section over its entire length, and whose end faces appear as clean cuts perpendicular to its longitudinal direction. This tubular, elongated, flexible toy building element ( ) has such an inner shape that it may be coupled together with said shafts ( ) and bushings ( ) by gripping at least a portion of these.
