A link set capable of connection in series to form an endless silent chain has a pair of guide links held apart by, and non-rotatively fastened to the ends of a pair of pins. A central link pack devoid of bushings to maximize the amount of material available to resist the stresses encountered under load is connected between and directly engages the pins. A pair of articulating link packs are rotatively connected to one of the pins on either side of the central link pack. Bushings are provided in the articulating packs to improve the wear life of the chain.

Silent chain

A drive chain for a variable speed transmission has two groups of links pivotally connected together by pivot pins lying on a pitch line. Drive pins are loosely received in each group of links, on a drive line spaced from the pitch line, for engagement with pulleys of a variable speed transmission.

Chain for variable speed transmission

A hybrid type chain having a low wear pivot joint between inner and outer links has been provided. Both the inner and outer links of the chain are pin links with the pins tightly received, respectively, in the sidebars of the links. Each pin of an inner link is engaged with the adjacent pin of the adjacent outer link in linking engagement to form a pivot joint. All pins have convex, arcuate faces for rocking engagement between the pins at the pivot joint between links.

Rocker joint roller chain

A self-centering variable diameter drive pulley, driven from an engine, receives a first drive belt which is also received on a self-centering variable diameter driven pulley. One or more engine accessories are driven through the variable diameter driven pulley at a relatively constant speed through a wide range of engine speeds by virtue of the variable diameter pulleys, one of which changes diameter in accordance with the speed at which it rotates. Another accessory, or accessories, are driven by pulleys which receive a second drive belt. The second drive belt is received over the first drive belt at the variable diameter drive pulley to transmit power from the drive pulley to said other accessories.

Dual range infinitely variable speed drive

There is disclosed a belt drive system in which a first belt is trained over a drive pulley and a driven pulley. A second belt is mounted over the first belt on the drive pulley and is trained over two other driven pulleys. The first belt has an outer surface with alternate longitudinally extending ridges and grooves and the second belt has an inner surface with alternate longitudinally extending grooves and ridges for mating engagement with the first belt at the drive pulley. The two driven pulleys which receive the second belt have circumferential ridges and grooves for mating engagement with the second belt.
