A solution making it possible for one telecommunication network operator (') to act as intermediate distributor or administrator of a content provider () for a multitude of operators () is presented. The content provider () has a single relation to the central operator (&#x2032;), in turn having relations to other operators (). It is thus possible for the content provider () to reach all users () of all operators () through a single relation to that operator (&#x2032;). The content provider () provides service content, e.g. media content. A list of targeted users () or subscribers is compiled. The central operator (&#x2032;) collects necessary subscriber attributes (), such as position, device information and access properties, from the other operators (). The content is modified according to the collected attributes (), and the content is distributed to the subscribers () in the best possible way.

The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for allowing private domains in the IMS, which makes it possible to use a SIP URI like ID@private-domain.TLD. This is achieved by providing an administration support and an interface to the IMS interconnect DNS and the DNS system of the operator network. The identity associated with private domain is established as a Private domain name based IMPU. The private domain name based IMPU and the Operator domain name based IMPU is associated by using the implicit registered identity set provided by the IMS.

A method and arrangement for establishing a packet-switched multimedia session for a mobile terminal connected to a mobile access network. A first Radio Access Bearer RAB is obtained, and the multimedia session is started by communicating media over the first RAB. Simultaneously with the media communication, a quality of communicated media is monitored and evaluated. If the monitored quality is deemed unacceptable, a media-adapted second RAB is obtained, and the session is continued over the second RAB. Thereby, it is not necessary to delay the communication of media by waiting for the second RAB to be obtained.

Method and arrangement for establishing a communication session for multimedia

A system and method for routing an incoming telephone call to a mobile terminal () which is a combined cordless phone and mobile phone. The call will be connected over either a fixed network () or a mobile network () depending on whether the mobile terminal is within or out of radio coverage of a home base station () connected to the fixed network. The call is routed in response to a routing indication which is included in the called number of the mobile terminal depending on the location of the mobile terminal. In this way, network operators may direct calls over the fixed network in preference to the mobile network, thereby relieving the mobile network. A single telephone number can also be used for the combined cordless phone and mobile phone.

System and method for providing telecommunication services

A method and system are disclosed for use with a mobile radio network, which receives and analyzes packets from a packet-switched fixed network, such as the Internet, and depending on the type of information received (e.g., speech, low speed data, or high speed WWW data), routes the information over an appropriate radio air interface to a mobile radio terminal. The speech information can be routed to mobile radio terminals over a conventional circuit-switched mobile radio link (e.g., a GSM traffic channel), the low speed data can be routed over a packet-switched mobile radio link (e.g., a GPRS traffic data channel), and the high speed data can be routed over a wideband broadcast radio link (e.g., a DAB network radio link). As a result, mobile radio terminals can advantageously enjoy full access to the Internet and thereby communicate effectively over the Internet with other mobile and wire-bound terminals.

Internet access for cellular networks

A cellular telecommunications system has a plurality of nodes, each for performing at least one of a number of cellular telecommunications system functions, including base station, speech coder, control processing, signal processing, local handoff, location register, and network interface functions. The nodes are interconnected by a network preferably comprising an optical fiber cable. In one aspect of the invention, the protocol that is used on the network is a high speed synchronous protocol, such as the DTM protocol. A first node in the system may be an antenna; an RF component coupled to the antenna; an analog-to-digital converter having an analog port and a digital port, the analog port being coupled to the RF component; and an optical fiber modem for connecting the digital port of the analog-to-digital converter to the network means. A second node in the system may be for performing base station controller functions, wherein the first and second nodes, together, operate as a distributed base station. In another aspect of the invention, some of the nodes may be transceivers, while other nodes include antennas coupled to frequency band filters. The network operates to permit any of the transceivers to be coupled to any one or more of the antennas, thereby permitting a handoff of a call from one antenna to another while maintaining use of the same transceiver, or permitting a handoff of a call from one transceiver to another while maintaining use of the same antenna.

Apparatuses and mobile stations are described which provide packet data services in TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) cellular systems, based on providing shared packet data channels optimized for packet data. A first 'integrated' embodiment utilizes the current cellular infrastructure to the extent possible consistent with functional and performance requirements. Shared packet data channels in base stations may be provided dynamically determined by demand. A packet data controller in each Mobile services Switching Center controls access to the packet data services. A packet data router in each MSC routes packets to and from the MSC service area. A backbone network interconnects packet data routers and Interworking Functions providing internetworking with external network(s). A second 'separate' embodiment, in order to minimize the impact on the current cellular system, primarily utilizes the base station portion of the cellular system, relying for the remaining network parts on a separate mobile packet data infrastructure.

Apparatuses and mobile stations for providing packet data communication

A method for random access in a time divided mobile radio system, for instance an FDMA/TDMA system, which includes digital traffic channels and control channels which are organized so that four traffic channels and two control channels are included in a TDMA-frame. A base station transmits continually flags in the time slots of the control channels. A mobile station desiring access to the system responds by sending a first message word (W1) in the time slot indicated by the base station in a first flag. When the mobile station wishes to transmit several message words, the base station reserves one or more time slots to this end by transmitting the first flag, although this flag now states that these time slots are busy for other mobile stations. Furthermore, the base station transmits a flag (R/N) which states whether or not a message word has been received from the mobile station. The base station can transmit a further flag, which denotes that a given time slot has been reserved for a given mobile station from the very beginning of an access procedure and cannot therefore be used by any other mobile station.

Method of effecting random access in a mobile radio system

A method and apparatus for achieving reliable transmission of signalling messages in a cellular system in which the frequency plan, frequency/time slot allocation plan, code channel allocation plan, or dynamic/adaptive channel allocation rule of the system is violated by allowing adjacent base stations to reuse particular frequencies/time slots/channels for signalling a particular mobile station. In situations where signalling messages, such as handoff commands, which are communicated between a base station and a mobile station are not properly received by the mobile station, an alternate communications channel will be established to ensure the reception of these messages. The alternate channel is provided by repeating the message through a channel associated with a base station which has better radio characteristics. The channel selected for transmission of the message by the new base station will be on the same frequency/time slot/code as used by the established connection.

Method and apparatus for enhancing signalling reliability in a cellular

A method and apparatus are disclosed for supervising a communication link in a cellular mobile radio system between a base station and a mobile station on a digital voice channel by utilizing digital voice color codes. The base station transmits bursts of communication data, which have an associated digital voice color code, to the mobile station. The mobile station, upon receiving the bursts and decoding the digital voice color code, compares the digital voice color code with a reference digital voice color code received during a call setup or handoff operation. A timer is initiated to time out the communication link after a predetermined period of time in response to the reference digital voice color code not being equivalent to a first predetermined number of the digital voice color codes received with the bursts. The timer is reset and deactuated in response to the reference digital voice color code being equivalent to the first predetermined number of consecutively received digital voice color codes of the bursts received by the mobile station. The communication link is disconnected when the reference digital voice color code is not equivalent to the first predetermined number of consecutive digital voice color codes received during the predetermined period of time clocked by the timer. After the timer is reset and deactivated, the received digital voice color codes are again compared with the stored digital voice color code. In the event that a second predetermined number of consecutively received digital voice color codes are not equivalent to the stored digital voice color code, the timer will be initiated again to possibly time out the communication link as described above.
