A method of transmitting borehole image data from a borehole location to a remote location includes obtaining a set of image data describing formation surrounding a borehole using a logging tool at a selected depth or range of depths in the borehole, extracting one or more image features from the set of image data downhole, and transmitting a representation of the extracted image features to the surface.

Method and system for transmitting borehole image data

A multipoint geostatistics computer-implemented method for modeling of discrete properties, comprising acquiring by a computer software program a training image made from at least one dimensional array of discrete property values, the values depicting the spatial relationship and variability considered to be typical of a n-dimensional surface to be modeled; constructing a search tree, the tree representing the probability of occurrence of combinations of values of a discrete property value, the construction being performed by counting these occurrences in the training image. The non-branching sequences of the search tree are compressed to what essentially amounts to a single node, by keeping only the relevant information the sequences contain.

Multipoint geostatistics method using branch runlength compression and local grid transformation

A method of extracting desired features from a cellular image including the steps of: (a) selecting an initial cell within the image; (b) selecting an additional cell, near the initial cell, appearing to be associated with a desired feature; (c) repeating step (b) for further cells, near at least one of the previously selected cells, appearing to be associated with said feature, until selection termination criteria are satisfied; and (d) repeating steps (a) through (c) for other initial cells. The method is particularly adept at extracting relatively weakly defined features in relatively noisy images, such as extracting faults or geologic horizons from 2D or 3D seismic data. A method of editing/filtering the features utilizing a stereo net is also disclosed. Related computer system and computer program products for implementing the method are also described.

Image feature extraction

Method for identifying one or more fracture clusters in an area of interest. In one implementation, the method may include determining a first inclination of each fracture cluster using borehole data. The first inclination refers to a first average angle with respect to horizontal. The method may further include extracting a first set of fracture clusters from seismic data using a filter based on the first inclination and a strike azimuth of each fracture cluster.
