An apparatus for process automation for use in an area where there is a risk of explosion and in which dusts may occur, including a wall structure serving as a housing of the apparatus and having a first wall structure section defining a first housing inner area and a second wall structure section defining a second housing inner area separated from the first housing inner area, wherein a first circuit arrangement is arranged in the first housing inner area and the first housing inner area is dust-tightly enclosed by the first wall structure section so that the dusts cannot penetrate into the first housing inner area and the explosion safety of the first housing inner area is ensured by the dust-tight enclosure, one or more electrical circuits being arranged in the second housing inner area and all the electrical circuits arranged in the second inner area forming an altogether intrinsically safe second circuit arrangement.

A field device coupling apparatus for coupling a field device to a higher-level controller, including a current interface with a first interface connection point and a second interface connection point, with which interface connection points the field device coupling apparatus can be connected to the higher-level controller in order to receive an interface current, further including a load circuit connected between the first interface connection point and the second interface connection point, the load circuit including a controllable load and being adapted to provide a supply voltage for the field device using the controllable load based on the interface current, wherein the load circuit includes an AC negative feedback path, which runs from an output branch of the load circuit to an input terminal of the controllable load and serves to increase the AC impedance between the first interface connection point and the second interface connection point.

Field-device coupling unit for providing a supply voltage for a field device and for communication with a superordinate control unit, the field-device coupling unit including a current interface, which is configured for communication with the control unit and has a first controllable input load which is configured to provide, from an interface current of the current interface, a load voltage on which the supply voltage is based, the field-device coupling unit further including a circuit arrangement for providing a communication signal which is to be transmitted to the control unit, wherein the circuit arrangement is configured to control the first controllable input load according to the communication signal in order to superimpose the interface current with a current signal corresponding to the communication signal.

A communication device for a field device for transferring output information to a controller, including a passive digital output with a first connection point and a second connection point, a circuit arrangement connected between the first connection point and the second connection point, and a control device configured to selectively put the circuit arrangement into one of a plurality of switching states according to the output information to be transferred. The communication device is configured, in a state in which the passive digital output is connected to the controller, to provide an electric output signal with a first signal value according to a first communication protocol at the connection points in a first switching state of the circuit arrangement and to provide the electric output signal with a second signal value according to the first communication protocol at the connection points in a second switching state of the circuit arrangement. The communication device is also configured to provide the electric output signal with a signal value according to a second communication protocol at the connection points in a third switching state of the circuit arrangement.
