A method of determining a parking route for a vehicle travelling on a road network within a geographic area is disclosed. A sub-network is determined comprising a subset of segments of an electronic map that are representative of roads within a predetermined walking time or distance of a destination location. Data indicative of a walking time or distance from the segment to the destination location is associated, at least with the segments of the sub-network representing roads having at least one associated parking space. A search algorithm having an associated cost function is used to explore the segments of the sub-network from an origin location to identify a plurality of candidate parking routes, wherein the cost for a given parking route is based on the probability of the vehicle successfully finding a parking space on the parking route and the expected cumulative travel and walking time or distance to the destination location should a parking space be found along the parking route.

Methods and systems for generating parking routes

A server systemfor providing data to at least one mobile device, the server system comprising a processing resource. In a first embodiment, the processing resourceis configured to generate contour data representing a boundary of a respective area for which a weather-related parameter has substantially the same value, the contour data being sent to a mobile device. A method for generating profile data indicative of time dependence of a time dependent parameter for navigable elements of a navigable network. For the method, a relative value of a time dependent parameter associated with each segment of a set of segments of the electronic map is obtained for each time period of at least one set of time periods. The segments are then clustered into groups of segments based on the relative values of the time dependent parameter obtained for the segments in each time period of the at least one set of time periods. The relative time dependent parameter data associated with the segments of the group is next used to obtain, for each group of segments, an aggregate profile indicative of the time dependence of the relative value of the time dependent parameter for each of the segments of the group of segments.

Methods and systems for generating profile data for segments of an electronic map

A navigation apparatuscomprises a processing resourceconfigured to: determine a route to a selected destination; obtain weather-related data; and modify speed data for a plurality of route segments in dependence on the weather-related data. For each route there is a respective classifier that classifies the road type for the route segment, and the processing resource is configured to modify the speed data for each route segment based on the weather-related data and the road type represented by the classifier for that route segment.

Navigation apparatus and method

A server system configured to communicate with a device that is installable in a vehicle, such as a portable or in-built navigation device, comprises a communications resource for receiving vehicle data indicative of a parameter of the vehicle; and a processing resource operable to obtain weather data and to process the weather data and the vehicle data to determine at least one weather-related condition in dependence on both the weather data and the vehicle data.
