An apparatus for angle measurement that includes a graduation carrier with a code track disposed concentrically to a center point of the graduation carrier. The apparatus includes a first scanning unit having a first interface and a second scanning unit having a second interface, wherein the first and second scanning units ascertain angle values of the graduation carrier by scanning the code track. The apparatus further includes a control unit having: 1) a device interface that is in communication with a follower electronics unit, 2) a control unit interface that is in communication with the first and second interfaces and 3) a processing unit. By which the processing unit, angle values of the first and second scanning units can be requested and processed into a corrected angle value, and the corrected angle value can be transmitted to the follower electronics unit via the device interface.

A field-modulating angular position measuring device includes a scanning device, a measuring graduation, and evaluation electronics, the scanning device and the measuring graduation being arranged at a scanning distance rotatably relative to each other, and angle-dependent output signals being producible by the scanning device, which may be processed further in the evaluation electronics. A system for determining a signal running time between a position measuring system and an evaluation unit. The system includes a position measuring system that has a graduation connected to a moving element, a scanning unit that scans the graduation, wherein scanning of the graduation generates signals representative of a position of the moving element and a transceiver means for generating serial data that is transmitted along a data line connected to the transceiver. A combination logical device, which is supplied with the first and second digital code words and which forms a resultant multi-digit code word therefrom.

A position measuring system to determine the absolute angle position of a rotor of a motor during startup. With this absolute angle position, correct commutation for startup of the motor is provided. During later operation a high-precision incremental angle measurement is possible. For this purpose a switching unit is disposed between a rotary transducer and an evaluation unit, which is driven in such a manner that first the analog signals necessary for the determination of the absolute angle position are input to the evaluation unit and thereafter the analog signals required for incremental angle measurement are input to the evaluation unit. In order to avoid unacceptable incorrect positioning in case of incorrect switching between the first and second modes of operation, all the analog signals have an approximately equal spacing period.

The invention concerns a device and a method for serial data transmission. In the position measuring device there is provided a memory, in which specific parameters of the position measuring device are kept. These parameters can be sent on the data line to a processing unit, by which the measurement values are transmitted during the position measurement. By receiving the parameters, the processing unit is adjusted to the connected position measuring device.
