An ultrasound-imaging system includes an ultrasound probe and a console. The ultrasound probe includes (i) an array of ultrasonic transducers, activated ultrasonic transducers of the array of ultrasonic transducers configured to emit generated ultrasound signals into a patient, receive reflected ultrasound signals from the patient, and convert the reflected ultrasound signals into corresponding electrical signals of the ultrasound signals for processing into an ultrasound image, and (ii) a secondary data collection module. The console includes one or more processors and a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon logic, when executed by the one or more processors, causes operations that can include: receiving and processing the electrical signals to generate the ultrasound image, receiving secondary data from the secondary data collection module, wherein the secondary data is data other than the electrical signals corresponding to reflected ultrasound signals, and providing a notification to administrator that includes the secondary data.

A medical system is disclosed that includes a medical device having an optical fiber, and an interchangeable connection component configured to provide a fiber optic connection between the medical device and capital equipment. The connection component is configured to facilitate cleaning and/or polishing of fiber optic interfaces include therewith. The connection component is also configured for replacement by a medical technician while the capital equipment is operational. The capital equipment may include one or more of an optical interrogator, a patch cable, a medical probe, an ultrasound machine, a display, a magnet sensor, or an electro-cardiogram (ECG) machine. The medical device may include an elongate member configured for insertion within the patient body, where the optical fiber core extends along a length of the elongate member.

Disclosed herein is a magnetic signature imprinting system including an imprinting device and a medical device having ferrous elements. The imprinting device includes an active area configured to receive the medical device. The active area includes one or more electromagnets configured to generate one or more electromagnetic fields to imprint a magnetic signature. The imprinting device further includes one or more sensors or a user input mechanism configured to detect one or more characteristics of the medical device and a console in communication with each of the electromagnets and the sensors.

The optical fiber can include sensing core fibers that extend distally along the probe. The optical fiber can further include illumining core fibers to facilitate projection of light away from the distal end in various illumination patterns. The system includes a console having processors and logic stored in memory. The logic can facilitate singly projecting the illumination light in the various patterns. The logic can also extract an image from returning light and compare wavelengths between the illuminating light and the returning light to determine a motion of body elements.

A system and method directed to detecting placement of a medical device within a patient body, the system including a medical device including an optical fiber having core fibers. Each of the one or more core fibers can include a plurality of sensors each configured to reflect a light signal having an altered characteristic due to strain experienced by the optical fiber. The system can further include logic configured to determine a 3D shape of the medical device in accordance with the strain of the optical fiber. The logic can be configured to define a reference plane for the 3D shape and render an image of the 3D shape on a display of the system in accordance with the reference plane.

The medical device can include a multi-core optical fiber including a plurality of core fibers, where each of the plurality of core fibers includes a plurality of sensors is configured to reflect a light signal based on received incident light, and change a characteristic of the reflected light signal for use in determining a physical state of the multi-core optical fiber. Optical-and-electrical medical systems and methods thereof are disclosed. Such a medical system can include a console, an optical shape-sensing ('OSS') medical device including an optical-fiber stylet, one or more electrical medical devices, and a relay module for establishing one or more optical or electrical relay connections between the relay module and a remainder of the medical system including the console. The console can be configured for converting reflected optical signals from the optical-fiber stylet into shapes thereof for display. The relay module can include a primary receptacle configured to accept insertion of a medical barrier-piercing plug of the OSS medical device and establish a through-barrier optical connection therebetween. The relay module also can include one or more secondary receptacles configured to accept insertion of a corresponding number of electrical plugs of the one-or-more electrical medical devices and establish one or more under-barrier electrical connections therebetween.

An ultrasound-imaging system includes an ultrasound probe coupled with a console. Operations of the system can include detecting one or more blood vessels within the ultrasound image and identifying each blood vessel as a vein, an artery or other anatomic element using doppler ultrasound functionality of the ultrasound probe. Operations can also include determining a confidence for the blood vessel identification, and defining a window for doppler ultrasound operation. Disclosed herein are dynamically adjusting ultrasound-imaging systems and methods thereof. For example, an ultrasound-imaging system can include an ultrasound probe, a console, and a display screen. The ultrasound probe includes an array of ultrasonic transducers that, when activated, emit generated ultrasound signals into a patient, receive reflected ultrasound signals from the patient, and convert the reflected ultrasound signals into corresponding electrical signals for processing into ultrasound images. Dynamically adjusting ultrasound-imaging systems and methods thereof

Disclosed herein are RFID enabled medical device systems including an RFID emitter configured to provide an interrogation signal that impinges on an RFID tag associated with a medical device to trigger a response signal. The response signal can indicate and presence or absence of the medical device proximate to the RFID emitter. A console communicatively coupled to the RFID emitter can determine, record, and analyze procedural or usage information about the medical device. Further information about the medical device can be encoded within the response signal and provided to the console. Console settings can be automatically updated based on the information within the response signal. Additional modalities are also contemplated including optical image recognition of medical device kits. Further AR viewers can provide image overlays to guide a user in correct procedure. Procedural compliance can be automatically recorded and monitored.

RFID enabled medical devices and associated systems

Disclosed herein is a system, apparatus and method directed to obtaining first data indicative of a first location within the patient vasculature, obtaining second data that is indicative of a second location within the patient vasculature, performing a confirmation process that includes determining whether the second location corresponds to the first location within a predetermined threshold, and when the second location is determined to correspond to the first location within the predetermined threshold, determining the first location accurately indicates the current location of the distal tip of the medical device. The first modality may be any of a fiber optic modality, a magnetically-based tip location system modality, or an electrocardiogram monitoring system modality and the second data may represent fluctuations of the distal tip of the medical device. The medical device may be an introducer wire, a guidewire, a stylet, a stylet within a needle, a needle, or a catheter.

System, method, and apparatus for improved confirm of an anatomical position of a medical instrument

Disclosed are systems and methods for ultrasound-and-bioimpedance-based guidance of medical devices. A system can include an ultrasound probe, a needle, a console, and a display screen. The ultrasound probe is configured to emit ultrasound pulses and receive reflected ultrasound pulses reflected back through one or more tissues for producing ultrasound images. The needle can be configured to emit, detect, or alternately emit and detect electrical currents passed through the one-or-more tissues disposed between a pair or more of system electrodes for measuring bioimpedance. The console can be configured to instantiate one or more console processes for the ultrasound-and-bioimpedance-based guidance with the ultrasound probe and the needle. The display screen is configured to display a graphical representation of the needle among anatomical features of the patient in the ultrasound images confirmed by the bioimpedance of the one-or-more tissues previously or instantly disposed between the pair-or-more of system electrodes.

Systems and methods for ultrasound-and-bioimpedance-based guidance of medical devices

Disclosed herein are medical systems, devices, and methods for identifying a blood vessel as a vein or as an artery. The system includes an optical fiber configured for insertion into a blood vessel coupled with a console having a light source, an optical receiver, processors, and logic stored in memory. The optical fiber includes sensors disposed along its length configured to determine a state or condition of the optical fiber, where the state or condition includes a strain, movement, pressure, or temperature. The logic analyzes reflected optical signals emanating from the sensors to determine that the optical fiber is inserted within an artery or within a vein. Logic may also determine a red-blue shift of a projected light to determine a blood flow direction with respect to the optical fiber.
