A method for heating an exhaust pipe in a motor vehicle, comprising including a plurality of spark cycles performed in succession at a preset frequency, wherein each spark cycle includes injecting a-preset fuel quantity into an injection area inside of an exhaust pipe in a motor vehicle and generating at least one spark between the ends of a pair of electrodes located in proximity to the injection area in order to start combustion. Thus, a value of an ionization current flowing between the ends of the pair of electrodes is detected following the extinction of the spark and this ionization current value is compared with a preset reference value. Therefore, the presence of combustion in the spark cycle is determined, if the ionization current value is greater than the preset reference value, or the absence of combustion in the spark cycle, if the ionization current value is lower than the preset reference value.

Method and device for heating an exhaust pipe in a motor vehicle

A method of detecting the breakdown voltage between the electrodes of a spark plug connected to an ignition coil for a cylinder ignition system, in an internal combustion engine, includes a detection of an opening of the switch on the primary winding and a detection of a voltage on that primary winding, with the generation of a first signal representative of the voltage trend following the opening of the switch. The first signal is then integrated and, following an identification of a breakdown at the ends of the spark plug, a breakdown voltage value is determined as a function of the value of the integrated signal at the time of the breakdown.

It is disclosed an electronic device to control an ignition coil of an internal combustion engine, comprising a high-voltage switch, a driving unit, a bias circuit and an integrating circuit. The high-voltage switch is connected in series with a primary winding of a coil. The driving unit is configured to control the closing and opening of the high-voltage switch. The integrating circuit is interposed between the bias circuit and a reference voltage. The integrating circuit comprises an integrating capacitor connected in series to the bias circuit and connected between the bias circuit and the reference voltage. The integrating capacitor is configured to maintain a substantially null charge during a phase of measurement of a ionization current as to measure a substantially null value of an integral of the ionization current, in the case of a misfire of the comburent-combustible mixture.

An electronic device for controlling an ignition coil of an internal combustion engine includes a high voltage switch, a driving unit and a control unit. The driving unit controls the closure of the switch during charging energy in the primary winding and the opening of the switch during transferring energy from the primary winding to a secondary winding. A current measuring circuit is connected in series to a second terminal of the secondary winding to detect current generated on the secondary winding during the charging step and generate a signal representative of the detected current. The control unit receives the signal representative of the current detected by the measuring circuit, compares a relevant value of such signal with a predefined first reference value and activates a mode for detecting a soiling of the spark plug when the relevant value of the signal exceeds said predefined first reference value.

It is disclosed an electronic device to control an ignition coil of an internal combustion engine, comprising a high-voltage switch, a driving unit, a bias circuit and an integrating circuit. The high-voltage switch is connected in series with a primary winding of a coil. The driving unit is configured to control the closing and opening of the high-voltage switch. The integrating circuit is interposed between the bias circuit and a reference voltage. The integrating circuit comprises an integrating capacitor. The integrating capacitor is configured, in the case wherein a pre-ignition of the comburent-combustible mixture in the combustion chamber during the phase of charging occurs, to pre-charge during the phase of charging energy in the primary winding and it is configured, in the case wherein the pre-ignition of the comburent-combustible mixture does not occur, to maintain the charge state substantially constant during the phase of charging energy.

A method for manufacturing an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine includes manufacturing a containment body provided with a containment chamber, defining an internal volume, and with a lateral seat facing outwards, and preparing an electronic board provided with a first face and a second face, opposite the first. The electronic board is positioned inside said lateral seat and a polymeric material with high thermal conductivity is then printed on the electronic board so as to cover it.

A voltage changing electronic element is operatively interposed between an electrical connection and the primary winding and is configured to change the voltage value of the primary winding between at least a first and a second voltage value. The control unit is configured to generate the control signal and send the control signal to having the first value to the changing electronic element at least during a first charging interval of the primary winding.
