An integrated circuit cast on a single die having a plurality of receivers in a receiver region, a plurality of transmitters in a transmitter region, and a spatial separation region having a plurality of n-type and p-type subregions disposed on the single die to separate the transmitter region from the receiver region. The pn-junctions between the n-type and p-type subregions are reverse-biased thereby reducing or eliminating coupling of noise and crosstalk between the transmitter and receiver is reduced.

Integrated multichannel laser driver and photodetector receiver

A transmitter uses an on-chip pattern generator to provide an input signal, and a built-in monitor to detect the power of the light emitted by the light source. The transmitter determines the correlation between the output power measured by an external power meter, and the output power detected by the built-in monitor. After the correlation is determined, the external power meter is no longer needed. Instead, further characterizations, such as over-temperature characterizations, are performed by determining the power detected by the built-in monitor, and then using the known correlation to calculate the actual power output and other transmitter characteristics.

Self-characterizing and self-programming optical transmitter

An optical transceiver includes a main body that serves as the heat sink for the optical transceiver. A wafer-level package is attached to a first face of the main body. The wafer-level package contains at least one optoelectronic device such as a light-emitting device or a light detector. An alignment element is attached to the wafer-level package for aligning an optical fiber to the optoelectronic device. A fiber receptacle is attached to the main body for holding the optical fiber securely. One or more auxiliary components can be attached to a second face of the main body. An optional cover can be attached to the main body to cover and protect the auxiliary components. A flexible circuit is made of a pliable material and is attached to the main body. The flexible circuit electrically couples the auxiliary components and the wafer-level package.

Small footprint optical fiber transceiver

A submount substrate is used for the dual purposes of enabling simultaneous burn-in processing for a relatively large number of arrays of optical transmitters and enabling conventional dicing techniques to be used to form mounting-ready assemblies. In the preferred embodiment, the submount substrate is a silicon wafer that is specifically designed to provide connectivity between VCSEL arrays and burn-in equipment during the testing stage, but is also designed to be segmented and used in the final packaging stage. Because the submount is a silicon wafer, conventional integrated circuit fabrication techniques may be used to form conductive patterns that define array-receiving areas and that allow external circuitry to communicate with the various VCSEL arrays.

Method for burn-in processing of optical transmitter arrays using a submount substrate

A window detector circuit for high frequency applications includes a differential amplifier that has two inputs which receive a differential voltage signal. A bias network, having a balancing node, connected between the two inputs. An output transistor, electrically biased by the balancing node, connected between power and ground. In operation, when the differential voltage signal is below a voltage threshold, the differential amplifier is turned off and current flows through the output transistor. When the differential voltage signal is at or exceed the voltage threshold, the differential amplifier turns on.

High speed signal window detection

For each channel in a parallel channel optical array, a diffractive optical arrangement (DOA) includes an input region that is configured to pass a first portion of an input beam to an output region for data transmissions and to diffract and direct a second portion to a detection region for monitoring. The input region includes the diffractive features of a computer generated hologram (CGH) or a grating for diffracting. Alternatively, the input region is coupled to the CGH or grating. Moreover, the DOA includes at least one reflective region for redirecting the second portion. In one embodiment, the DOA includes a separate active surface for each channel of the array. Alternatively, the DOA has a singular active surface that is positioned to interact with all the channels. Optical power output from the second portion is monitored to generate feedback signals for adjusting the input current to each laser. Additionally, optical power output from sensed temperature is monitored to generate feedback signals.
