Embodiments for providing Semi-Automatic ATM Configuration are generally described herein. In some embodiments, obtaining configuration connection details are obtained. The configuration connection details are used to connect to a configuration server and to configure a self-service terminal (SST).

Semi-automatic configuration of a self-service terminal

A state-driven Self-Service Terminal (SST) has its existing state table dynamically and transparently replaced. The states flow, the screens rendered during the flows, and the state transitions are handled by an enhanced module processing on the SST. The enhanced module references existing state code on the SST so that the SST continues to operate in a manner expected, but enhanced functionality and features are provided to the SST through the enhanced module and the replaced state table.

Dynamic replacement of self-service terminal (SST) states flow and screens handling

A method and apparatus for monitoring an application executing on a self-service terminal. The method comprises: registering with a services manager (such as an XFS or J/XFS manager) to receive event reports indicative of a change of state being sent to the application; accessing an operating system function to deduce a current status of the application; and communicating a status of the application to the remote management system, without communicating with the application, to enable the remote management system to manage the self-service terminal more effectively.

Application monitoring

A method of providing secure authentication of a service user at a self-service terminal is described. The method comprises: detecting attempted access by the service user to a restricted function on the self-service terminal and ascertaining if a predefined operating system account is present on the terminal. In the event that the predefined operating system account is not present, then the method comprises permitting access to the restricted function by the service user. In the event that the predefined operating system account is present, then the method comprises requesting the service user to provide login credentials and authenticating the login credentials using the operating system account. If the login credentials are not authenticated, access to the restricted function is denied; whereas, if the login credentials are authenticated, access to the restricted function is permitted.

Secure authentication at a self-service terminal

Methods of reducing transaction time in a self-service terminal are described. The methods involve pre-stacking a defined amount of media, such as a commonly withdrawn amount of money, before the user has performed any service selection. During service selection, the user is given an option to withdraw the defined amount of money and if the user selects this option, the pre-stacked amount is dispensed. If the user selects an option to withdraw a different amount of money, a second dispenser in the self-service terminal may be used to stack and dispense this different amount.
