The invention relates to an encapsulated surge protection device capable of carrying lightning currents and limiting follow currents and comprising at least one spark gap, which has in each case at least two main electrodes and one auxiliary electrode, which is connected to a starting device for triggering in the event of transient surges. The invention provides a second starting device which is independent of the first starting device and which can activate the spark gap without the need for the presence of surges or pulse currents on the basis of the presence of a minimum voltage between the main electrodes of the spark gap.

The invention relates to a single- or multi-pole switching device, in particular for DC applications, having at least one rotating switching element () which is connected to a drive, and also comprising switching contacts (), connection pieces () and connection poles or connection terminals () and a housing arrangement which accommodates the abovementioned parts. According to the invention, a movably guided rotary cylinder () is formed in the housing arrangement, said rotary cylinder being located in a body which is designed as a rotary cylinder holder (). The rotary cylinder () has at least one contact pin () which passes radially or tangentially or eccentrically through the rotary cylinder and has, at its end, a contact piece () in each case. Mating contact pieces () are arranged in the rotary cylinder holder (), said mating contact pieces being electrically connected to the connection pieces () or connection poles or connection terminals (). A narrow, arc-influencing gap is present between the rotary cylinder () and the rotary cylinder holder (), wherein, as a result of the movement of the rotary cylinder (), the electrical connection between the contact pieces () and the mating contact pieces () can be broken by way of the contact pin () and the resulting disconnection arcs () enter the air gap subject to an extension and are rapidly extinguished there.

The invention relates to a spark gap having a plurality of individual spark gaps connected in series and present in a stacked arrangement, spaced apart from each other by insulating spacers () and nearly free of secondary current under typical operating conditions, wherein the individual spark gaps comprise electrodes () and outer connection electrodes are provided, and further having control elements for influencing the voltage distribution across the stacked arrangement and/or designed as an ignition aid. According to the invention, a mechanically pretensioned insulating element () can be inserted or pivoted between two adjacent electrodes () of the individual spark gaps, in order to interrupt the main current path of the spark gap in case of fault or overload.

The invention relates to a rapid disconnect device for surge arrestors, in particular plate-type or flat varistors, comprising at least one element that is maintained under a mechanical stress, and a disconnection point for disconnecting the surge arrestor from the respective power grid upon thermal overload, wherein the disconnection point comprises contacts, the positions of which vary relative to one another, wherein one of said contacts is designed to be fixed. According to the invention, the contacts of varying positions relative to one another are electrically connected without the use of solder in such a way that incident current forces act primarily in the contact force direction and such that the moving contacts of the positionally-variable contacts of a lost element located at the surge arrestor and thermally detachable therefrom can be moved from a closed position to the disconnected position.

The invention relates to a horn spark gap lightning arrestor with a deion chamber () for quenching arcs in a housing () and controlling the internal gas flow for adjusting a different response of the arc produced in the case of power pulse current loading, on the one hand, and of the arc induced by follow-on current, on the other hand. For this purpose, the distance between the opposite electrode faces of the horn spark gap in the striking region is kept very small and there is only a slight widening of the distance in the diction of the end of the horn spark gap in order to prevent undesired migration of the arc in the event of lighting pulse current.

Horn spark gap lightning arrestor with a deion chamber

The invention relates to a horn spark gap with a deion chamber () with a non-blowout design having a multi-part insulating housing as supporting and accommodating body for the horn electrodes () and the deion chamber () and means for conducting the arc-induced gas flow, wherein the insulating housing is divided in the plane spanned by the horn electrodes and forms a first and a second half-shell. According to the invention, the horn electrodes () have an asymmetrical form. Horn spark gap with a deion chamber

The invention relates to a spark gap comprising a number of series-connected individual spark gaps which are placed in a stack arrangement, which are spaced apart from each other by insulating material discs and are provided with a spring contact, the individual spark gaps including ring-shaped or disc-shaped electrodes, and further comprising control elements for influencing the voltage distribution over the stack arrangement. According to the invention the ring-shaped or disc-shaped electrodes required to form one of the respective individual spark gaps are each inserted into an insulating body and held by same in a centered manner. The respective insulating material discs are located between and fixed by the insulating bodies. A recess is provided inside the insulating body to receive and center the electrodes, whose shape is complementary relative to the contour of the respective electrode, wherein the recess comprises on the inner circumference at least partially elastic, resilient centering projections or centering noses.

Arrangement for igniting spark gaps

A surge arrestor includes at least one arrestor element, and a disconnecting device for disconnecting the arrestor element from the grid. The disconnecting device includes a thermal disconnect point that is incorporated into the electrical connection path within the arrestor. A moving conductor section or a moving conductive bridge is connected to the arrestor element by way of the disconnect point. A conducting element is disposed in or at the end of the path of motion of the conductor section or of the bridge, the conducting element coming into contact with the conductor section or the bridge when the disconnecting device is triggered. A moving insulation part penetrates into the path of motion of the conductor section or of the bridge directly prior to or upon reaching a short circuit state.
