A method and device for sharing data. The method include: receiving, by a direct memory access controller, a data read instruction; wherein the read data instruction can be a shared data read instruction or a non-shared data read instruction; determining whether to fetch a requested data block from a first memory unit to a second memory unit by applying a direct memory address control operation; wherein the second memory unit is accessible by a processor that generated the shared data read instruction; fetching the requested data block from the first memory unit to the second memory unit by applying a direct memory access control operation, if the read data instruction is a non-shared data instruction or if the read data instruction is a shared data instruction but the requested data is not stored in the second memory unit; and retrieving a requested data block from a second memory unit.

Device having data sharing capabilities and a method for sharing data

A device and a method for processing a frame, the method includes: receiving a frame; retrieving a lookup key parse command that includes an instruction field and an bitmap representative of selected frame fields to be searched in the frame; generating a lookup key by extracting at least one frame field if the type of the received frame matches an expected frame type; and looking up, using the lookup key, for additional frame processing instructions.

Method and device for processing frames

Packets of data from multiple queues are transferred onto a single channel. Each queue has associated with it a data rate for servicing a packet within the queue. Each queue has an integer that, relative to the other numbers, represents is inversely related to the assigned data rate. Each queue has associated with it a counter and that is loaded with its corresponding integer. The counter values are compared, and the queue corresponding to the lowest counter value has a packet coupled to the channel. The counter of the selected queue is incremented by its integer. The next queue that is selected is the one that corresponds to the counter with the lowest count value after the counter that corresponds to the previously selected queue has been updated.
