The use of a holographic video screen which appears black, gray or colored in ambient light as the display surface in a vehicle, wherein a driver can view the screen while driving without taking his eyes of the road. Additionally, the display system containing such a video screen permits the projection and viewing of multiple images on a single screen.

A display unit for an information processing system comprises a holographic image generating system. The information processing system may be a computer, television, telephone or other information system. The display may also be used in a large format, including a matrix of individual units, for sports arenas, road signs and the like.

Use of a holographic video screen as a display surface for information systems

In an electronic image enhancement system, a reflex image is scanned in the interior of the eye. After modification by a processor, the image is projected back into the eye along the same path, and aligned in registration with the original scanned image. An elliptical scan pattern is used.

A method and apparatus for transmitting light, wherein a holographic video screen is used as part of an illuminating system. The tendency of such a video screen to backscatter light of certain wavelengths from a predefined direction into a certain solid angle area is utilized to generate holographic images at precisely defined angles. In ambient light, such a video screen need not appear black, or at least dark.

Illuminating system

A pane made of glass or plastic, whose optical degree of reflection can be controlled by switching between two different interference conditions. As a result, the transmissibility with respect to sun radiation can be reduced very efficiently and an excessive heating of glazed objects can be prevented. Preferred applications of the invention are the climate control of motor vehicles, rail vehicles, airplanes and buildings.

In an arrangement for marking of vehicles to hinder theft or unauthorized sale, the marking permanently applied to the vehicle comprises a multiplicity of microscopic information carriers having data (secondary information) encoded thereon which data normally coincides with information providing details on the identity of the vehicle (primary information) stored in some other way and not accessible to manipulation. Many thousands of information carriers encoded with the secondary information are incorporated in the manner of pigments into a vehicle coating, at least at certain locations.

A transparent glass/plastic material composite pane, comprising at least one transparent plastic pane, at least one glass pane and according to demand an adhesion-promoting intermediate layer between the glass pane and the plastic pane, the glass pane being a glass film of a layer thickness of from 30 to 1,000 .mu.m.
