In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a system is provided for facilitating localizing an external device, the system comprising: at least one UWB communication node; a controller operatively coupled to said UWB communication node, wherein the controller is configured to switch the UWB communication node between a ranging mode of operation and a radar mode of operation in dependence on an estimated distance between the UWB communication node and the external device.

Localization with reduced power consumption

systems and methods include a transmitter with a control unit that is configured to generate a code, including data identifying a plurality of regions and a transmitter-specific cyclic shift scheme. The cyclic shift scheme results in a re-arrangement of the regions (using a change of time offset) that is different (transmitter-specific) for each of the transmitters. The transmitter generates a signal based on the code and transmits the signal via an antenna. The radar system includes a receiver configured to receive an echo of the signal via a second antenna that is reflected from a target and identifies the transmitter from the echo based on the transmitter-specific cyclic shift scheme.

Radar system, a radar arrangement, and a radar method for concurrent radar operations

An ultra-wideband, UWB, receiver module () comprising: an antenna for wirelessly receiving UWB signalling from a UWB transmitter module () and a processor. The processor is configured to: determine a channel impulse response, CIR, () of the wirelessly received UWB signalling, wherein the CIR comprises a plurality of channel taps each having a tap-response-value; identify a predetermined feature () in the CIR and an associated channel tap; and based on the channel tap that is associated with the identified feature () in the CIR (), synchronize the UWB receiver module () for reception of subsequent UWB signalling.

In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a communication device is provided, comprising: at least two antennas; an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication unit configured to receive UWB frames through said antennas; a controller configured to switch between said antennas such that consecutive UWB frames are received through different ones of said antennas; wherein the controller is further configured to compute channel impulse responses (CIRs) wherein each of said CIRs is based on a different one of said UWB frames. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a communication device is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a computer program is provided for carrying out said method.

Communication device and operating method

In accordance with a first aspect of the present disclosure, a communication device is provided, comprising: an ultra-wideband (UWB) transceiver configured to communicate with an external communication device; a processing unit configured to switch the UWB transceiver between different transceiver modes of operation while the UWB transceiver receives or transmits a data frame; wherein the different transceiver modes of operation include a ranging mode, an angle-of-arrival (AoA) mode and/or a radar mode. In accordance with a second aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding method of operating a communication device is conceived. In accordance with a third aspect of the present disclosure, a corresponding computer program is provided.

An entry system is provided that includes a radio frequency (RF) communication unit configured to transmit a wake-up signal to an external authentication device, one or more ultra-wideband (UWB) communication nodes configured to operate in a radar mode, wherein the nodes are configured to receive one or more radar signals reflected by an external object when operating in the radar mode, and a processing unit configured to cause the RF communication unit to transmit the wake-up signal if the UWB communication nodes receive the radar signals.

A system for localizing an ultra-wide band (UWB) apparatus comprises a UWB transceiver that identifies and extracts features of at least one channel impulse response (CIR); and a special-purpose processor that applies a machine learning classification process to the extracted CIR features to localize the UWB apparatus in a vehicle.

An angle of arrival (AoA) of an electromagnetic wave is determined. A phase of an antenna signal associated with each of two receive antenna is measured. A measured phase difference of arrival (PDoA) of the electromagnetic wave is determined based on the measured phase of each of the antenna signals. The measured PDoA is corrected based on one or more crosstalk factors associated with the two receive antennas. The AoA of the electromagnetic wave at the two receive antenna is generated based on the corrected measured PDoA.

A moving object detector detects a moving object in a channel. The detection comprises the detector receiving a plurality of frames based on a transmitter transmitting a plurality of frames over a channel. One or more channel impulse responses (CIRs) of the channel is determined based on the received plurality of frames. The detector determines a CIR phase for each of the CIRs and a phase signal is formed based on a phase value of the CIR phase for each of the CIRs. The detector compares the phase signal with a target signal and detects the moving object in the channel based on the comparison.

Detecting a moving object based on a phase of channel impulse responses

An ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication system, comprises a first wireless apparatus; a second wireless apparatus that participates in a first ranging sequence with the first wireless apparatus; and a transmission channel between the first and second wireless apparatuses that transmits data of the first ranging sequence. A receiver for reducing a distortion component within a baseband receive signal is provided. The baseband receive signal is derived from a radio frequency signal. The receiver includes a signal generation unit configured to generate a local oscillator signal. The local oscillator signal comprises a first signal component having a first frequency related to a desired signal component of the radio frequency signal, and a second signal component having a second frequency related to a frequency of an interfering signal. The receiver further includes a mixer coupled to the signal generation unit.
