A retrofit light emitting diode (LED) module may include a carrier with at least one LED, a retrofit connection for mechanical and electrical contact-connection to conventional lamp holders, and an electronic system for driving the at least one LED. At least one part of the electronic system is integrated into the carrier, and the electronic system comprises a sensor system. A retrofit LED module system may include at least two retrofit LED modules and at least one control unit which regulates the retrofit LED modules in an adaptive and synchronized manner.

A regulation circuit is provided for making available a constant current supply on the basis of a transformer principle, in which there flows through the luminescent diodes a triangular a.c. current varying periodically around a d.c. current value. Circuitry is provided so that both the charging and the discharging current of an inductive reactance connected in series to the luminescent diodes, functioning as a storage choke for filtering of mains harmonics, flows as diode current through the luminescent diodes. An advantage of this method consists in a significant reduction of the overall power loss of the LED illumination module. According to one embodiment, the ceramic circuit board of the LED illumination module has a direct mains current supply, which, for protection from mechanical damage, is accommodated in a transparent housing having a highly transparent polymer mass serving as an optically active lens surface.

Current supply for luminescent diodes

An LED module having an LED semiconductor chip mounted directly or indirectly on a platform. The platform is made from silicon and extends laterally beyond the LED semiconductor chip having an active light emitting layer and a substrate. At least one electronic component that is part of the control circuitry for the LED semiconductor chip is integrated in the silicon platform.

An LED module comprises an LED chip mounted on a substrate, a lens, and a metal holder mechanically holding the lens and being soldered on the substrate. The holder can be designed such that it holds the lens such that there is an air gap between the light exit surface of the LED chip and the bottom face of the lens.

An LED spotlight has an arrangement having at least one LED, above which there is arranged a color conversion substance, and an optical system of a substantially transparent material, which directs incident light from the LED arrangement in the direction of an exit surface by means of total internal reflection. The base surface of the conical optical system may thereby have the shape of a polygon. The outer wall of the conical optical system may have at least in partial regions planar facets. The color conversion material may be provided in the shape of a cuboid above the LED arrangement.

The invention relates to a light emitting device having a radiation emitting element, for example a light emitting diode, and a luminescent material which is able to absorb a part of the radiation sent out by the radiation emitting element and to send out light with a wavelength which is different from the wavelength of the absorbed radiation. The device further has diffusing particles which are able to scatter a part of the radiation sent out by the radiation emitting element, and/or to scatter a part of the light sent out by the luminescent material. The diffusing particles are of non-activated luminescent material, through which production is simplified.

The light emitting device has a light emitting diode which is made of a nitride semiconductor and a phosphor which absorbs a part of lights emitted from the light emitting diode and emits different lights with wavelengths other than those of the absorbed lights. The phosphor is made of alkaline earth metal silicate fluorescent material activated with europium.

According to the invention, the luminophore is an alkaline-earth orthosilicate, which is activated with bivalent europium and whose composition consists of: (2-x-y)SrOx(Ba, Ca)O (1-a-b-c-d)SiOaPObAlOcBOdGeO: y Euand/or (2-x-y)BaOx((Sr, Ca)O (1-a-b-c-d)SiOaPObAlOcBOdGeO: y Eu. The desired color (color temperature) can be easily adjusted by using a luminophore of the aforementioned type. The light source can contain an additional luminophore selected from the group of alkaline-earth aluminates, activated with bivalent europium and/or manganese, and/or can contain an additional red-emitting luminophore selected from the group Y(V, P, Si)O:Eu or can contain alkaline-earth magnesium disilicate.
