The invention relates to a cooling device () for cooling a metal strip () after a forming in a cold rolling stand () having at least one nozzle () for spraying a cooling medium () onto the surface of the metal strip (). In order to make such known cooling device more effective and efficient, it is proposed according to the invention to provide a plate (), which in an operating position is arranged parallel to the surface of the metal strip () in the run-out of the cold rolling stand (,) and to arrange the nozzle in the operation position in such a manner that the cooling medium is sprayed at an acute spray angle &#x3b1; into a cavity between the surface of the metal strip and the opposing plate, with a spray direction (R) opposite to the running direction (L) of the metal strip.

For preloading a tapered roller bearing () secured with a conical seat on a tapering roll neck () of a roll (), in particular, a back-up roll, arranged in a roll stand by means of a chock (), by application of a hydraulic pressure thereto, the bearing inner ring (), rollers, () and the bearing outer ring () of the tapered roller bearing () are subjected to pressure produced during rolling and are radially preloaded against the roll (). An annular pressure-applying device is supported on the roll () by an axial bearing provided on the roll end neck, is arranged against the bearing outer ring of the tapered roller bearing () and, upon application of pressure, displaces the chock () with the bearing outer ring () in a direction toward the roll body () or the roll () in an opposite direction.
