The invention relates to valve system for controlling a process fluid within a liquid processing system. The valve system comprises a valve arrangement, a pneumatic control system, and a connector unit. When the valve arrangement is connected to the connector unit, two or more valves are formed, such that the pneumatic control system controls an open/close or pressure control mode of the valves. A pump diaphragm system is disclosed, as well as a system for purifying a biological material that comprises the valve system or the pump diaphragm system. Also discloses are methods of using the valve system or the pump diaphragm system in a process for the purification of a biological material.

Remotely actuated valve for a biological liquid treatment system

A self-adhesive layered septum is disclosed. In one example, the septum includes a first outer layer including a thermoplastic elastomer such as a styrenic block copolymer, containing styrene ethylene butylene styrene (TPE-SEBS) capable of closing at least partially an aperture formed when a needle is inserted through the layer; an adhesive second layer for adhering the septum to a mouth area of a well or container to which the septum is attachable; and a thermoplastic third layer between the first and second layers, thermobonded to the first layer and providing better adherence for the adhesive layer. The first layer includes a recess and a vent, which reduce pressure differentials in use, but together with the third layer minimize evaporation through the septum.

A Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) biosensor system comprising: a SPR sensor surface, an illumination unit arranged to direct a wedge shaped beam of light at a line shaped detection area on the SPR sensor surface transverse to the direction of propagation of light, and a detection unit with detection optics for directing light reflected from the SPR sensor surface onto a two-dimensional optical detector unit such that the angle of reflection is imaged along one dimension and the width of the detection area along the other, wherein the illumination unit is arranged to selectively direct the wedge shaped beam of light at two or more spaced apart line shaped detection areas on the SPR sensor surface transverse to the direction of propagation of light.

The invention relates to a method for making a laminated microfluidics with membrane valves. The method comprises (a) generating a membrane valve assembly comprising (1) laminating three plastic foils together, the top foil comprising one through hole for each valve, the middle foil has a slit pattern connecting each valve hole of the top foil, and the bottom foil has one through hole for each valve and one additional hole entering the slit pattern; (2) placing the laminated foil, bottom foil down on a mould half having a smooth mould surface with one or more perpendicularly protruding cylinders that concentrically fit within the through holes of the laminated foil yet leave room for a membrane to form, and clamping a second mould half to close the mould; (3) injecting and allowing to cure a liquid rubber through a funnel associated with the bottom mould half and the additional hole on the bottom foil layer; and (b) laminating the membrane valve assembly and a flow path. Also provided is a membrane valve assembly made according to the method.

Methods and devices are provided for controlling a fluid flow over a sensing surface within a flow cell. The methods employ laminar flow techniques to position a fluid flow over one or more discrete sensing areas on the sensing surface of the flow cell. Such methods permit selective sensitization of the discrete sensing areas, and provide selective contact of the discrete sensing areas with a sample fluid flow. Immobilization of a ligand upon the discrete sensing area, followed by selective contact with an analyte contained within the sample fluid flow, allows analysis by a wide variety of techniques. Sensitized sensing surfaces, and sensor devices and systems are also provided.
