The present invention is directed to a system and method for performing tissue, preferably bone tissue manipulation. The system and method may include implanting markers on opposite sides of a bone, fractured bone or tissue to facilitate bone or tissue manipulation, preferably in-situ closed fracture reduction. The markers are preferably configured to be detected by one or more devices, such as, for example, a detection device so that the detection device can determine the relative relationship of the markers. The markers may also be capable of transmitting and receiving signals. An image may be captured of the bone or tissue and the attached markers. From the captured image, the orientation of each marker relative to the bone fragment may be determined. Next, the captured image may be manipulated in a virtual or simulated environment until a desired restored orientation has been achieved. The orientation of the markers in the desired restored orientation may then be determined. The desired relationship between markers may then be programmed into, for example, the detection device. Next, actual physical reduction and/or manipulation of the bone may begin. During the manipulation procedure, the orientation of the markers may be continuously monitored and when the markers substantially align with the virtual or simulated orientation of the markers in the desired restored orientation, an indicator signal is transmitted.

Simulated bone or tissue manipulation

A tissue manipulation system includes Programmable Markers configured to be implanted on opposite sides of one or more portions of tissue within a patient's body, Markers communicating with one another to enable a determination of their relative positions and External Device receiving and transmitting signals to Markers containing information as to Marker's positions. Device is configured to: capture an image of the tissue portions with Markers; manipulate the image of the tissue portions in a virtual environment or a simulated environment to a desired restored orientation; determine desired positions Markers will have when the tissue portions are in the desired restored orientation; program implanted Markers with the desired orientations. Device generates an indicator signal upon Markers being manipulated into the desired orientations; and manipulate the tissue portions after Markers have been programmed, until an indicator signal is generated indicating that the desired restored orientation has been substantially achieved.

A method for performing spinal fixation and instrumentation. A first incision may be made through the skin and a passageway may be created to the spine. A screw may be inserted through the passageway and into a vertebrae. The screw may have a head portion including a channel. An insertion guide may be operable connected to the screw. The insertion guide may have first and second longitudinal slots. Additional screws may each be inserted through separate incisions or through the first incision. Insertion guides may be operably connected to a head portion of each screw. A sleeve may be positioned into one insertion guide in a first position to guide a rod through at least one other insertion guide. The sleeve may be rotated to a second position to allow the rod to move down the slots of the insertion guide(s) and into the head portion of the screw.

The invention relates to a resetting tool (), for the axial displacement of a Kirschner wire (), in particular, for application with bone plates, which may be implanted for the fixing of fractures. The above comprises a Kirschner wire (), comprising a thread in at least a part region and at least one guide tube (), by means of which the Kirschner wire may be positioned. A nut () is provided, which is slotted and contains an internal drilling, such that the nut may be placed over the Kirschner wire and may be supported on the guide tube, whereby the Kirschner wire may be displaced in the axial direction by means of rotation of the nut.

Resetting tool

The present invention relates to a clamp, and, more particularly, to a clamp for securing the position of a bone anchor with respect to a longitudinal rod, preferably for use in the spine. The clamp may include a housing, a rod clamping assembly, and a bone anchor clamping assembly. The clamp preferably enables the longitudinal axis of the rod to be offset or laterally displaced from the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. The rod clamping assembly and the bone anchor clamping assembly are preferably moveably coupled to the housing in order to provide increased flexibility to better accommodate the location and geometry of the longitudinal rod and to better accommodate bone positioning.

An expandable access device for providing access to a surgical site in the body. The expandable access device comprises a first blade, a second blade and a connection mechanism operable connecting the first and second blades. Each blade may have a first portion, a second portion and an intermediate portion between the first and second portions. The intermediate portions of each blade may be bent such that the first and second portions of each blade may be at an angle with respect to each other. The connection mechanism may have first and second elongated member, which may be in a criss-cross configuration. A first end of the first and second elongated members may be connected to the first blade and a second end of the first and second elongated members may be connected to the second blade. Such a construction may enable the first and second blades to separate and pivot with respect to each other. An actuating device may be connected to the first and second blades and/or the connecting mechanism and may be used to move the first and second blades with respect to each other.
