A polyurethane adhesive composition, more specifically a two-component polyurethane adhesive, including (a) at least one isocyanate component, and (b) at least one polyol component, wherein the polyol component (b) includes (bi) at least one first polyol compound, (bii) at least one second polyol compound and (biii) at least one chain extender, and a process for making the above adhesive composition.

Two-component polyurethane adhesives include a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a high functionality polyether polyol and precipitated calcium carbonate particles having a particle size of up to 200 nm. The adhesive has an excellent combination of a prolonged open time followed by curing to form a strong adhesive bond.

Latent two-part polyurethane adhesives

Disclosed are curable compositions containing isocyanate functional prepolymer containing two part adhesives wherein the prepolymers contain in their backbones hydrophobic segments and the curative part comprises one or more oligomeric or polymeric compounds having more than one isocyanate reactive groups; and one or more low molecular weight compounds having more than one isocyanate reactive groups wherein the low molecular weight compounds and the amount of such low molecular weight compounds are selected to such that the composition after full cure exhibits a ratio of modulus (e.g., Young's modulus or shear storage modulus) measured at &#x2212;35&#xb0; C. to the modulus measured at 23&#xb0; C. of less than 10. The cured compositions exhibit higher stiffness across the common use temperature range and improved hydrolytic stability especially when exposed to elevated temperatures. Also disclosed are methods of bonding substrates together utilizing such compositions.

Compositions containing hydrophobic modified isocyanate functional prepolymer containing adhesives

Disclosed is a composition including one or more isocyanate functional prepolymers; one or more catalysts for the reaction of isocyanate moieties and active hydrogen containing moieties; one or more mercapto silanes; one or more amino silanes, isocyanato silanes or a mixture thereof; one or more reinforcing fillers comprising one or more high surface area carbon blacks; one or more untreated calcium carbonates; one or more polyisocyanates having an isocyanate functionality of about 2 or greater; and one or more linear plasticizers. Preferably, the isocyanate functional prepolymer is prepared in the presence of at least a portion of the linear plasticizer. Preferably, the isocyanate functional polymer is prepared in the presence of a dialkyl malonate. The composition may be one-part adhesive composition. Also disclosed are methods of applying the compositions to substrates. The composition bonds primerlessly to hard to bond to coatings, such as coatings prepared from compositions including a silanated component, such as a silanated acrylopolyols, or having silica clusters.

Isocyanate functional adhesive which bonds primerless to silanated acrylic polyol based coatings

The adhesive compositions of the invention are especially useful in bonding replacement windows into structures without using a primer and allowing for fast drive away times. The adhesive is pumpable, sag resistant and bonds parts together at temperatures between about &#x2212;10 C and about 80 C. The adhesive is comprised a linear and branched isocyanate functional polyether prepolymer wherein the linear and branched isocyanate functional polyether prepolymers are present in the composition at a particular weight ratios an isocyanate functional polyester prepolymer, a plasticizer and filler.

Further disclosed are methods of bonding structures together using the latent two-part polyurethane adhesives.

Dual cure 1K PU adhesive formulations using matrix encapsulated polyamines

Two-component polyurethane adhesives include a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a polyether polyol and an aliphatic diol chain extender. The polyisocyanate component includes an isocyanate prepolymer made by reacting an aromatic polyisocyanate with a poly(butylene oxide) polyol. When cured, the adhesive is highly resistant to heat and humidity, and exhibits an unexpectedly high modulus and tensile strength.

Two-component polyurethane adhesives include a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a polyether polyol and specific amount of an aliphatic diol chain extender. The adhesive has an excellent combination of a prolonged open time followed by curing to form a strong adhesive bond. The adhesive is especially useful for bonding carbon fiber-reinforced plastics.

Two-component polyurethane adhesives include a polyol component and a polyisocyanate component. The polyol component includes a polyether polyol and an aliphatic diol chain extender, but is devoid of primary and second amine compounds. The polyisocyanate component includes one or more polyisocyanate compounds. The adhesive contains a mixture of a dialkyltinthioglycolate catalyst and an acid-blocked cyclic amidine catalyst. The tin catalyst is formulated into the polyol component, whereas the cyclic amidine catalyst can be formulated into either the polyol or the polyisocyanate components.

The present invention is directed to a unique composition and method for promoting adhesion of substrates to adhesives.
