A half-bridge switching module is one of a plurality of half-bridge switching modules coupled to an input voltage to regulate energy provided to a load in response to a system controller. The half-bridge switching module includes a low-side switch. A low-side control is referenced to ground and is coupled to the low-side switch. A high-side switch is coupled to the low-side switch. A high-side control circuit is coupled to the high-side switch and is referenced to a floating node of the half-bridge switching module. A single fault terminal is coupled to a fault bus coupled to the system controller. The fault bus consists of a single wire. The single fault terminal is configured to provide multidirectional multi-fault group communication between the plurality of the half-bridge switching modules and the system controller through the fault bus.

Single-wire bus multi-group fault communication for half-bridge inverter modules

A fault communication system includes a system controller and a plurality of devices. Each one of the plurality of devices includes a single fault terminal. A fault bus consisting of only a single wire coupled to the system controller and the plurality of devices is also included. The fault bus is coupled to provide multidirectional multi-fault group communication between the plurality of devices and the system controller. The single fault terminal of each one of the plurality of devices includes is coupled to the fault bus to provide the multidirectional multi-fault group communication between the plurality of devices and the system controller.

A process is disclosed for communicating digital data between a powered device and a charging device via a universal serial bus (USB). The process includes conducting a handshaking period between the powered device and the charging device via the USB. The powered device initiates a mode of normal operation of the charging device after an end of the handshaking period. The charging device communicates digital data (e.g., available power levels) between the powered device and the charging device during a time period that starts with the end of the handshaking period and ends with a beginning of the mode of normal operation.

A controller includes a PWM circuit and a timing circuit. The PWM circuit controls a switch in response to a clock signal. A switching period of the clock signal is based on a charging and discharging time of a capacitor included in the timing circuit. Both first and second current sinks discharge the capacitor while the timing circuit is in a normal discharging mode that is when an on time of the switch is less than a threshold time. The second current sink is prevented from discharging the capacitor such that the capacitor is discharged with the first current sink and not the second current sink while the timing circuit is in an alternative discharging mode that is when the on time of the switch exceeds the threshold time. The discharging of the capacitor in the alternative discharging mode increases the switching period of the clock signal.

Varying switching frequency and period of a power supply controller

An example controller for use in a power converter includes an oscillator and a logic circuit. The oscillator is to be coupled to a switch of the power converter and determines a switching cycle period of the switch. The logic circuit is also to be coupled to the switch to control a duty cycle of the switch in response to a magnitude of a feedback signal to regulate an output of the power converter. The logic circuit controls the duty cycle of the switch such that a control loop gain of the power converter is substantially constant during a transition of the controller between duty cycle control modes.
