Controlling data traffic of a communication network managed by a network operator, NWO. The data traffic includes first and second type traffic. The second type traffic is between a data service provider and an end user device provided by the OEM, and the first type traffic is between the OEM and the end user device. A controller acquires one or more device-specific second type traffic consumption parameters of the end user device, causing a downlink data traffic restrictor of the NWO to restrict downlink second type traffic between the data service provider and the end user device in accordance with the one or more device-specific second type traffic consumption parameters, and causes an uplink data traffic restrictor of the end user device to restrict uplink second type traffic between the data service provider and the end user device in accordance with the device-specific second type traffic consumption parameters.

A method for use in an automated wireless industrial system comprising a device configured to act as a control node and at least one field level device, wherein the method comprises: issuing a control communication; inserting at least one time delay (tk) to the control communication; noting the communication time (TCL) for the communication; comparing the time for communication (TCL) to an expected time for communication (TR); and determining if any of the at least one time delay (tk) should be adapted, and if so, adapting at least that time delay.

Intelligent transport system message control method and arrangement

A method for communication within a cooperative intelligent transport system. The method comprises receiving, in a first node, a first intelligent transport system message from another node of the cooperative intelligent transport system. In the first node, a technology status of that another node is identified. The technology status comprises information whether or not the first intelligent transport system message was transmitted configured according to a predetermined first intelligent transport system technology, and information whether or not the first intelligent transport system message comprises a dual technology indicator. The dual technology indicator is an information element identifying that the node transmitting the first intelligent transport system message is capable of communicating intelligent transport system messages according to the first intelligent transport system technology as well as according to a predetermined second technology. A corresponding node for communication within a cooperative intelligent transport system is also disclosed.

Intelligent transport system technology co-existence method and arrangement

A method for control of a telematic control unit comprises obtaining of information of discontinuity-beneficial conditions, associated with a vehicle to which the telematic control unit is connected. The discontinuity-beneficial conditions indicate that an extended discontinuous reception mode would be beneficial for the telematic control unit and the vehicle to which it is connected. A determination of an extended discontinuous reception time for the telematic control unit to propose is obtained. A request for an extended discontinuous reception mode for the telematic control unit is initiated as a response to obtained discontinuity-beneficial conditions, proposing the determined extended discontinuous reception time. A telematic control unit configured for performing such a control method is also presented.

Method for controlling a telematic control unit

An arrangement for a wireless communication device is disclosed. The arrangement is adapted to set up an application connection between an application of an application layer of the device and a remote server. The device comprises a modem subsystem (comprising the application layer, a remote socket client and a remote socket API between the application layer and the remote socket client), an application processor (comprising a remote socket server and an IP stack, wherein the application processor is associated with a wireless communication access unit and the IP stack is adapted to connect to a communication network using the access unit), and a remote socket protocol communication channel between the remote socket client and the remote socket server. The application is adapted to send an application connection setup request to the remote socket client via the remote socket API. The remote socket client, the remote socket server and the remote socket protocol communication channel are collectively adapted to use a remote socket protocol to set up a remote socket connection between the remote socket client and the remote server via the remote socket server and via the IP stack, using the remote socket protocol communication channel and the wireless communication access unit, and to establish the application connection based on the remote socket connection. The remote socket client is further adapted to (in response to the application connection being established) send an application connection setup response to the application via the remote socket API.

Remote socket connection for data offload

An application processor circuit comprises an interface circuit configured to communicate with a separate modem device, a user application module configured to execute one or more user-installed applications, and a core application module configured to execute one or more core applications and to access one or more modem services on the modem device, using the interface circuit and an IP socket application protocol interface (API), wherein packets sent to the modem device for accessing the one or more modem services include a destination IP address corresponding to the modem device. The application processor circuit further comprises an IP filter module configured to identify and discard outbound packets that include a destination IP address corresponding to the modem device and that originate from any of one or more disallowed applications in the application processor, without sending the identified packets to the modem device.

Packet filtering at an application-processor-to-modem interface

An interface between an application processor device and a modem device uses virtual local-area network (VLAN) tagging of Ethernet frames. An example modem device includes a first interface circuit configured to communicate with a remote device, a second interface circuit configured to communicate with an application processor circuit , and a processing circuit configured to: provide the application processor circuit with IP-based data communications to and from at least one remote IP network using Ethernet frames exchanged between the application processor circuit and the modem device; provide the application processor circuit with local modem services, using Ethernet frames exchanged between the application processor and the modem device; and distinguish between Ethernet frames for the local modem services and Ethernet frames for the IP-based data communication to and from the remote IP network using differing VLAN identifiers attached to or included within the respective Ethernet frames.

Modem interface using virtual local-area network tagging

A wireless telecommunications device configured to use Session Initiation Protocol in communication with other telecommunications devices comprises a modem subsystem configured to deploy Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem services using Session Initiation Protocol and comprising a Session Initiation Protocol stack; and an application processing engine configured to deploy Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem services using Session Initiation Protocol and comprising a Session Initiation Protocol stack. The device comprises a logical element configured to capture Session Initiation Protocol messages from Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem services to an external Session Initiation Protocol proxy server and to function as a Session Initiation Protocol Back-to-Back User Agent; and send to the external Session Initiation Protocol proxy server Session Initiation Protocol messages based on the captured messages. The need for special Application Programming Interface between the two subsystems is avoided, and multiple SIP request messages need no longer be sent.

Handling session initiation protocol messages in a wireless telecommunications device

Systems and methods are provided for authenticating Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) applications in a User Equipment (UE). A method includes: receiving a first Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) REGISTER message from an IMS application operating on the UE; transmitting a response message to the IMS application based on the received first SIP REGISTER message; receiving a second SIP REGISTER message from the IMS application operating on the UE; determining authentication for the IMS application based on the received second SIP REGISTER message from the IMS application operating on the UE; and based on the step of determining authentication for the IMS application, if the IMS application is authorized, then transmitting information associated with the first and second SIP REGISTER messages toward a SIP node or if the IMS application is unauthorized, then discarding data associated with the first and second SIP REGISTER messages.

Systems and methods for protection of a SIP back-to-back user agent on modems

In a communication device having a modem subsystem and an Application Processing Engine (APE) that share an IP address, port number conflicts are avoided by a Port Reservation Agent (PRA) running on the APE. Apps executing on the modem subsystem must request to register a port number with the PRA prior to using it. If the address is available, the PRA creates a port reservation socket and associates the port number with the requesting app. If the requested port number is not available, the PRA returns an error and the app must request a different address. To apps executing on the APE, the port reservation sockets appear as port numbers associated with other apps executing on the APE. In this manner, port number conflicts between the modem subsystem and the APE are avoided.

Port number reservation agent

According to an embodiment of network address translation traversal, a server agent interfaces a private network to a public network. Private IP addresses for servers located in the private network are mapped to corresponding identifiers known to clients located outside the private network. A request message sent over the public network by a client located outside the private network is received by the server agent. The request message includes a host identifier having a first portion that identifies the server agent to the public network and a second portion that identifies a server located in the private network. The second portion of the host identifier is unknown to the public network. The request message is sent to the server identified by the second portion of the host identifier using the private IP address that maps to the second portion of the host identifier.
