A method performed by an AMF. The method includes receiving a first request to establish UP for a UE's PDU session and, in response to receiving the request to establish UP for the UE's PDU session, determining whether a condition is satisfied. Determining whether the condition is satisfied comprises determining if the UE is in the idle state with respect to a non-3GPP access, wherein the condition is not satisfied if the UE is not in the idle state with respect to the non-3GPP access. The method also includes initiating paging of the UE by a 3GPP access as a result of determining that the condition is satisfied.

Handling a UE that is in the idle state

An Access and Mobility Management Function ('AMF') can include processing circuitry and memory coupled to the processing circuitry. The memory has instructions stored therein that are executable by the processing circuitry to cause the AMF to perform operations. The operations include determining that selection of a Session Management Function (“SMF”) from a plurality of SMFs of a communications system is needed. The operations further include, responsive to the determination, generating a network function (“NF”) discovery request including a service area indication requesting service area information for discovered SMFs. The operations further include communicating the NF discovery request toward a NF Repository Function (“NRF”). The operations further include receiving a NF discovery response including SMF identifiers and service area information for a list of SMFs. The operations further include selecting the SMF from the list of SMFs.

Session management function service area information provision

Embodiments include methods for a policy control function (PCF) of a communication network. Such methods include, during establishment of a packet data unit, PDU, session for a user equipment, UE, determining one or more UE application descriptors that correspond to a network application identifier (AppId) of a service data flow (SDF) template for the PDU session. Each UE application descriptor includes a first identifier (OSId) of a UE-supported operating system (OS) and a second identifier (OSAppId) of an application for the UE-supported OS identified by the first identifier. Such methods include sending policy rules for the PDU session to a session management function (SMF) of the communication network. The policy rules include the UE application descriptors. Other embodiments include complementary methods for an SMF, as well as PCFs and SMFs configured to perform such methods.

Application identification in access traffic steering, switching, and splitting (ATSSS) rules

A method of providing multiple sets of legacy credentials to be applied to one subscription in a 5th generation (5G) system, where a subscriber initiates via legacy wireline access to the 5G system, multiple communications sessions each requiring respective different credential. The method comprises receiving, at a gateway function of the 5G system, subscriber legacy wireline access via a gateway node of the subscriber, registering the subscriber and identifying the subscriber subscription based on line identification (ID). In response to registering the subscriber, receiving subscription information from a subscription data structure of the 5G system; and initiating the multiple communications sessions between the subscriber and the 5G system by having the gateway function authenticate each of the communications sessions based on the line ID, relate the line ID to additional subscriber credentials stored in the subscription data structure, and apply additional subscriber credentials for authorization of respective individual communications sessions.

Multisession PAP/CHAP support for WWC

A method for PDU session management. The method includes receiving, at an Access and Mobility Management function entity (AMF), a registration request message transmitted by a user equipment (UE), wherein the registration request message comprises a list of PDU sessions to be activated; and, in response to receiving the registration request message, the AMF transmitting to a session management function (SMF) a request message for requesting the SMF to activate UP resources for at least one of the PDU sessions identified in the list of PDU sessions.

PDU session management

A method, UE, and computer programs are provided where the UE has multiple universal subscriber identity modules. Information is received from a first PLMN indicating there is one of mobile terminating (MT) signaling or data in the first PLMN while the UE is in a second PLMN. Responsive to receiving the information, a service request is sent to an AMF node of the second PLMN. A radio resource control (RRC) connection release is received from a RAN node in response to sending the service request. Responsive to receiving the RRC connection release, the second PLMN is left to be in the first PLMN.

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for implementing mobile terminating call. According to an embodiment, a subscriber management node obtains, from a mobility management node, an indication that indicates whether a packet switching (PS) connection is currently active for a terminal device. The subscriber management node receives, from a server, a first query about whether a PS access domain is to be used for a terminating call to the terminal device. The subscriber management node sends a response to the server based on the obtained indication.

Methods and apparatuses for implementing mobile terminating call

Disclosed herein is a method performed by an AMF entity in a Visited Public Land Mobile Network, VPLMN, entity serving a roaming UE, the method comprises: obtaining, by the AMF entity, a subscribed UE-AMBR for the UE; sending, by the AMF entity, an Access Management, AM, Policy request message towards a Visited Policy Control Function, V-PCF, entity in the VPLMN to establish or update an AM Policy for the roaming UE; receiving by the AMF entity in response to sending the AM Policy request message, an AM Policy response message sent by the V-PCF entity and comprising Access and mobility related policy information that includes a serving network UE-AMBR for the UE decided by the V-PCF entity; and deploying the serving network UE-AMBR instead of the subscribed UE-AMBR by sending the policy control information including the determined UE-AMBR to a RAN node in the serving network.

VPLMN policy control

A method performed by a UE having multiple USIMs is provided. The method includes registering the UE in a first PLMN. The method includes moving the UE into a CM-connected state in the first PLMN. The method includes setting up a PDU session in the first PLMN. The method includes using a DNS, via the PDU session in the first PLMN, to select a N3IWF in a second PLMN. The method includes accessing the N3IWF via IP connectivity provided by the first PLMN and initiating a registration procedure with an AMF node in the second PLMN using the N3IWF, the UE indicating that the AMF node shall only use N3IFW for NAS notifications after registration. The method includes completing the registration procedure to register with the second PLMN. The method includes setting up a PDU session with a SMF node in the second PLMN without user plane resources.

User plane setup during 5G system to evolved packet system handover

A method performed by a PGW for handling a UEs access to an EPC service via a non-3GPP access network. During a request for connecting the UE to the non-3GPP access network, the PGW receives identity information which indicates an identity of an AAA node from a non-3GPP access gateway. The PGW selects the AAA node which was indicated in the received identity information. The PGW transmits, to the selected AAA node, a request message for the UE. The request message is a request for authorization of the UE to access the EPC service via the non-3GPP access network.

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for facilitating roaming of terminal device. According to an embodiment, a session management node operable in a home network receives, from another session management node operable in a visiting network, a quality of service (QoS) policy per a roaming agreement between the visiting network and the home network during establishment of a protocol data unit (PDU) session for a terminal device. The session management node retrieves, from a subscriber management node, subscribed QoS parameters of the terminal device. The session management node obtains a result that is generated based on the QoS policy per the roaming agreement and the subscribed QoS parameters of the terminal device.

Methods and apparatuses for facilitating roaming of terminal device

A method performed by an Access and mobility Management Function (AMF). The method includes receiving from a Session Management Function (SMF) a request to establish User Plane (UP) for a user equipment's (UE's) protocol data unit (PDU) session. The request includes information indicating an access type.
