A trigonal cutting insert for a shoulder milling tool includes an upper side, an opposite lower side and a peripheral side surface. A plurality of indexable cutting edges extend along corners of the cutting insert, each cutting edge having a main cutting edge, a corner cutting edge, and a surface-wiping secondary cutting edge. The upper side includes a recessed central surface, and a plurality of positively inclined rake surfaces having a main rake surface portion, a corner rake surface portion, and a secondary rake surface portion. A concave indentation is formed in the corner rake surface portion and in at least an initial part of the main rake surface portion adjacent to the corner rake surface portion, wherein the concave indentation has an elongated shape.

Cutting insert for a shoulder milling tool

A milling insert for shoulder milling having s a positive basic shape and includes an upper side having a rake surface, a lower side including a planar bottom surface, a side surface extending around the periphery of the milling insert, and a cutting edge formed between the side surface and the rake surface. The cutting edge has at least a major cutting edge portion, a corner radius cutting edge portion, a ramping cutting edge portion, and a surface wiping cutting edge portion. The side surface includes an upper set of primary clearance surfaces and a lower set of secondary clearance surfaces having a plurality of planar secondary clearance surfaces, wherein the upper set of primary clearance surfaces forms an overhang protruding with respect to the secondary clearance surfaces and extending around the entire upper periphery of the milling insert.

Milling insert and a milling tool

A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along a peripheral borderline in transitions between at least the upperside and a number of clearance surfaces. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge. The main edge, from a first end of the main edge adjacent to the secondary edge, first declines toward the underside of the milling insert and then, from a lowest part, rises toward an opposite second end of the main edge. The secondary edge is inclined at an angle (&#x3b5;) in relation to the reference plane as viewed perpendicularly to the clearance surface of the secondary edge, such that a first end of the secondary edge connected to the main edge is situated on a lower level than the opposite, second end of the secondary edge.

Milling insert

A toolholder includes a bottom abutment surface, a projection extending upwardly from the bottom abutment surface, the projection including an internally threaded opening, having a central axis that is offset from a central axis of the projection in a first direction, and a clamping screw having external threads for mating with threads of the internally threaded opening and a head having a bottom clamping surface shaped as a truncated cone for contacting an insert clamping surface and urging an insert substantially in a first direction when the clamping screw is tightened relative to the toolholder and the insert. The toolholder also includes at least one abutment member extending from a side wall of the projection in a radial direction, each abutment member having an abutment point, at least which is closer to the central axis of the projection than to the central axis of the internally threaded opening.

An indexable cutting insert for a milling tool includes an upper side defining an upper extension plane and a lower side defining a lower extension plane parallel to the upper extension plane. A side surface connects the upper side and the lower side, the side surface including a plurality of upper main clearance surfaces and secondary clearance surfaces. At least six identical and alternately usable upper cutting edges extend around the upper side. Each cutting edge has a chip removing main cutting edge portion and at least one secondary cutting edge portion. The main cutting edge portion is formed in a transition between the upper side and one of the upper main clearance surfaces. The secondary cutting edge portion is formed in a transition between the upper side and one of the secondary clearance surfaces between two main cutting edge portions. The upper main clearance surfaces are formed at an obtuse inner angle &#x3b1; with respect to the upper extension plane as seen in side elevation view.

Metal cutting insert and a milling tool

A face milling tool includes a tool body having a central rotation axis around which the tool is rotatable, and at least one insert seat formed in a transition between a front end and an envelope surface of the tool. The tool further includes at least one cutting insert mounted in the insert seat, the cutting insert having an upper side defining an upper extension plane, a cutting edge extending around the circumference of the upper side, and a lower side defining a lower extension plane directed towards the bottom support surface of the insert seat. A center axis extends perpendicularly through the upper and the lower extension planes. The tool is configured such that a main cutting edge portion is at an entering angle &#x3ba; smaller than 80&#xb0; and such that the upper extension plane is at a radial tipping-in angle &#x2212;60&#xb0;&#x2266;&#x3b3;&#x2266;&#x2212;25&#xb0; and at an axial tipping-in angle &#x2212;20&#xb0;&#x2266;&#x3b3;&#x2266;0&#xb0;, such that an angle of inclination &#x3bb; of the main cutting edge portion is within the range 15&#xb0;&#x2266;&#x3bb;&#x2266;50&#xb0;.

Milling tool

A device for the chip removing machining of a work piece includes a body connectable to a holder or rotatable spindle. The body has at least one first seat to receive a cutting insert having a main cutting edge. The first seat has an active part including at least one first seat surface. The body receives the cutting insert in the first seat, the first seat including at least one location surface. The at least one location surface forms an angle with the first seat surface and positions the cutting insert axially and radially in the active part. The body has a second seat to receive a shim member such that the cutting insert adjoins the at least one first seat surface and the shim member. The cutting insert covers an area defined by the shim member and the at least one first seat surface.

A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A double-sided, indexable face milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a neutral plane (NP) parallel to the upperside and the underside, the neutral plane forming a right angle with a geometrical center axis (C). A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along circumferential borderlines in transitions between a number of clearance surfaces and the upperside as well as the underside. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge, the secondary edge forming an obtuse angle with the main edge in planar view. A corner clearance surface extends between and connects each pair of upper and lower secondary edges, the corner clearance surface including first and second part surfaces which each form an acute angle (&#x3b7;) in side elevation view with respective reference planes (RP) parallel to the neutral plane.

A drilling tool set includes a plurality of drilling tools having different operative drill diameters to blast drill holes of different respective diameters. Each drilling tool of the set has a basic body defining a central axis of rotation, and two replaceable indexable bits including a center bit and a periphery bit which are mountable in respective center and periphery pockets formed in a front end of the basic body. The periphery bits of the respective drill tools of the set are identical, and the center bits of the respective drill tools of the set are identical. Each of the center and periphery pockets of each drill tool defines a radial center point. A first of the drill tools has a smaller operative drill diameter than a second of the drill tools. The first tool includes a first periphery pocket and a center pocket. The center point of the first periphery pocket is disposed closer to the axis than is the center point of the second periphery pocket. The center point of the first center pocket is disposed closer to the axis than is the center point of the second center pocket.

Drilling tool set, drilling tool and indexable drill bit therefor

A drilling tool includes a basic body defining a center axis of rotation and having two chip channels and two replaceable indexable cutting bits in the form of a center bit and a periphery bit mounted in respective center and periphery pockets formed in an axially front end of the basic body. The center bit and the center pocket are spaced radially from the periphery bit and the periphery pocket along a first diametrical plane of the basic body. At least the center bit includes four identically-shaped cutting edges, one of which constituting an operative cutting edge intersected by a second diametrical plane oriented perpendicularly to the first diametrical plane. Each cutting edge of the center bit comprises first and second part edges joined by a transition edge portion. The first and second part edges of the operative cutting edge constitutes operative first and second part edges, respectively; the operative first part edge being spaced from the center axis and situated closer than the operative second part edge to an outer periphery of the basic body. An axially forwardmost portion of the operative first part edge is disposed axially forwardly of an axially forwardmost portion of the operative second part edge, and an axially forwardmost portion of an operative cutting edge of the periphery bit lies axially between the axially forwardmost portions of the operative first and second part edges of the center bit, respectively.

Cutting insert for cutting tool

An indexable cutting insert for metal machining comprises an upper rake surface, a bottom surface and side surfaces that extend between the upper and bottom surfaces. Cutting edges are formed at the transitions between the side surfaces and the upper surface. Disposed along the cutting edges on the upper surface are elongated primary lands. Disposed inside of the lands is a chip-breaking depression. A raised land area to be ground is situated in the chip-breaker, so that the total grinding area of the upper surface becomes about as large as the total grinding area of the bottom surface. The insert can thus be ground by upper and lower grinding wheels which rotate simultaneously in opposite directions.
