A coating/drying device including a first application device, a second application device and a drying device. The first application device for applying application medium to a first side of a fiber material web, moving in a running direction. The second application device for applying application medium to a second side of the fiber material web, the second side being opposite the first side. The second application device being an application device operating without contacting the fiber material web. The drying device is arranged downstream of the first application device and the second application device in the running direction of the fiber material web.

A machine for one of producing and treating, and separately treating a material web including a material web dispensing device, at least one application apparatus, a drying device, a processing device and a material web smoothing device. A machine for producing and treating a web of material including a material web forming device, a dewatering and drying section, at least one application apparatus, a drying device and a processing device. The material web forming device forms a material web continuously from a supplied fibrous suspension. The dewatering and drying section is arranged along a material web path after the material web forming device. The section extracts water from the web by way of at least one of thermal and mechanical action. The at least one application apparatus is arranged along the material web path after the dewatering and drying section. The apparatus applies liquid or pasty application medium to at least one side of the web. The drying device is arranged along the material web path after the application apparatus. The drying device dries the moving material web to a final drying state. The processing device is arranged along the material web path after the drying device. The at least one contactless application unit applying the application medium to the web on the basis of forces to the application medium, movement impulses imparted to the application medium and on movement of the application medium induced by the force of gravity.

Machine for producing and treating a sheet of material

A device for applying a liquid to pasty medium to a moving surface, the moving surface in the case of direct application being the surface of a paper, board or other fibrous web. In the case of indirect application the moving surface being the surface of a transfer element which transfers the application medium to the surface of the fibrous web. The device includes an applicator for applying the medium and a doctor device arranged downstream in the running direction of the moving surface for doctoring off and/or equalizing the medium applied to the moving surface. In order to collect excess medium that has not remained on the moving surface and/or has not reached the latter, a flexible collecting part covering the interspace between applicator and doctor device is provided, which extends transversely with respect to the running direction of the moving surface and parallel to the applicator and the doctor device.

Application device

An application apparatus is for applying a liquid or pasty medium to a moving base. The moving base is a surface of a material web in a case of direct application and a surface of a transfer element for transferring the medium to the material web in a case of indirect application, the material web being one of paper and cardboard. The application apparatus has an inlet side and an outlet side with respect to a direction of movement of the moving base. The application apparatus includes a carrying beam; an essentially rigid supporting unit provided on the carrying beam; a sealing doctor device positioned at the inlet side of the application apparatus, the sealing doctor device being fixedly attached to the supporting unit; and a metering doctor device positioned at the outlet side of the application apparatus, the metering doctor device being fixedly attached to the supporting unit. The sealing doctor device and the metering doctor device define an application chamber therebetween.

Apparatus for the application of a liquid or pasty medium to a moving fiber web

A device designed for coating a material web with a coating medium includes a coater, a metering/smoothing device positioned downstream of the coater in the direction of feed of the material web, at a certain distance from the coater, and a support roll around which the material web is guided. Moreover, the material web is guided around the support roll only in the area of the metering/smoothing device, and it traverses essentially in a straight line between the coater and the support roll. In accordance to a first aspect of this invention, a support arrangement supports the material web in the straight web section between the coater and the support roll. In accordance to a second aspect of this invention, devices are provided which stabilize the material web in the area where the web traverses in a straight line.

The applicator includes a backing roll having a shell surface for carrying the web, and a nozzle for feeding the coating mixture. The applicator includes a support beam; a nozzle which is integral with or connected to the support beam; and a doctor bar carried by the support beam. The doctor bar has a guide surface. The guide surface and the backing roll define a nip for producing a hydrodynamic pressure. The guide surface approaching the shell surface of the backing roll extends to an exit edge at a location nearest the backing roll. A device is provided for flexibly backing the doctor bar on the support beam.

The invention relates to an applicator for coating webs of paper or cardboard, with a backing roll for supporting the web at least in the area of the applicator, and with a nozzle for supplying coating mixture. The nozzle is connected to or integrated with a support beam. A guide surface has an angular, sharp parting edge on the end of the guide surface and is attached to the support beam. The guide surface--toward the parting edge --steadily approaches the shell surface of the backing roll, while in the area of the parting edge deviating at an angle between 0.degree.-10.degree. from the tangential direction of the backing roll existing adjacent the parting edge. The guide surface and the backing roll define an applicator gap in which a hydrodynamic pressure prevails.
