A method operates a hearing system having a hearing device and modifies an input signal for the purpose of sound output to a user and, applies multiple algorithms with a respective potency, as a result of which a respective algorithm is applied with a present potency in a present situation. The hearing system recurrently receives a report from the user indicating that the user is dissatisfied with the sound output in the present situation. The hearing system has a database, containing multiple weights for each algorithm, to rate a change of the potency. If a report is received, each of the algorithms is rated using the weights to ascertain an individual-case relevance for each of the algorithms, to assess the effect of a change of the potency. Multiple individual-case relevances are combined to form a relevance value for each algorithm, the relevance values are compared with one another.

For the fitting of a hearing instrument, an audio signal of an ambient sound, recorded by way of an input transducer, is modified according to a multiplicity of signal processing parameters. Via a first classifier, a user of the hearing instrument is offered a plurality of problem descriptions for the user to select. By way of a second classifier, a proposed solution for modified values of the signal processing parameters is determined based on the user's selection of one of the offered problem descriptions.

A method performs directional signal processing for a hearing aid. First and second input transducers of the hearing aid generate first and second input signals, respectively, from a sound signal. A first calibration directional signal which has a relative attenuation in the direction of a first useful signal source is generated from the first and second input signals, and a second calibration directional signal which has a relative attenuation in the direction of a second useful signal source is generated from the first and second input signals. A relative gain parameter is determined from the first and second calibration directional signals. First and second processing directional signals are generated from both the first and second input signals. A source-sensitive directional signal is generated from the first and second processing directional signals and the relative gain parameter. An output signal of the hearing aid is generated from the source-sensitive directional signal.

In a method that reduces the occurrence of acoustic feedback in a hearing device, a first wearing situation is created that determines a positioning of the hearing device relative to the wearer. For the first wearing situation, a first usage situation is created being a body movement of the wearer of the hearing device and/or a relative position of an external object relative to the body of the wearer. A first number of frequency-resolved curves of a feedback tendency of the hearing device are determined for the first use situation. A first criticality measure is ascertained based on the frequency-resolved curve for the first use situation that contains information on a frequency range that is critical with respect to an occurrence of acoustic feedback and a corresponding relative probability of acoustic feedback, and a target is established for adapting a hearing device parameter based on the first criticality measure.

In a method of operating a hearing device, an input transducer of the hearing device generates an input signal. A preliminary output signal is generated from this input signal through signal processing. An expected direct sound that is expected to be heard at one ear of a user of the hearing device is ascertained based on the input signal. A propagation delay of the preliminary output signal is ascertained with respect to the expected direct sound. A masking signal is generated based on the input signal and/or the preliminary output signal, taking into account the expected direct sound and/or the propagation delay of the preliminary output signal with respect to the expected direct sound. A frequency range to be transmitted by the hearing aid device is divided into two frequency ranges that are separated by a split-band frequency. Depending on the result of the assessment, the split-band frequency is lowered or raised and in the upper frequency range a phase and/or frequency change is applied for suppressing feedback.

A method for the operation of a hearing device with at least one receiver includes carrying out a fixed second frequency shift of an electrical receiver signal supplying the receiver or of a predefinable frequency range of the receiver signal and a variable first frequency shift of the receiver signal or of a predefinable frequency range of the receiver signal. The first frequency shift is changed depending on the occurring feedback. A frequency shift which effectively prevents feedback is advantageously carried out, while artifacts of the frequency shift are minimized.

A hearing device has a signal-processing apparatus for processing an input signal into an output signal, and a feedback-canceller apparatus for reducing feedback artifacts on the basis of the input signal and the output signal. The feedback-canceller apparatus has an adaptive, first filter, for establishing a set of filter coefficients for a predefined feedback situation. The feedback-canceller apparatus is configured to store the set of filter coefficients. It has at least one second filter, which can be operated directly parallel to the first filter on the basis of the stored set of filter coefficients. The adaptive, first filter can be continuously adapted to a current feedback situation, and the feedback-canceller apparatus is configured such that in the current feedback situation it automatically selects either the first or the second filter. As a result, it generally only requires a simple switchover, but not a complete adaptation.

Switching a hearing device from a first operating state into a second operating state is to be configured in an acoustically-friendly fashion. A first output signal power of a first audio data stream is determined for the first operating state and a second output signal power of a second audio data stream is determined for the second d operating state. Furthermore, a fading function, which represents the overall output power during a fading process, and the initial value of which corresponds to the first output signal power and the end value of which corresponds to the second output signal power, is defined. The fading process is finally implemented by mixing the audio data streams such that the overall output power corresponds to the fading function or a corresponding approximation function. Volume jumps can thus be avoided to a large degree during a switchover between operating states.
