This disclosure relates to a data processing device, comprising: a digital front end (DFE) configured to convert an antenna signal to digital data, wherein the digital data comprises a plurality of data symbols; a baseband (BB) circuitry configured to process the digital data in baseband; and a digital interface between the DFE and the BB circuitry, wherein the DFE comprises a data compression circuitry configured to compress the plurality of data symbols for use in transmission via the digital interface to the BB circuitry.

Techniques for data compression

A technique for cancelling inter-cell or intra-cell interference in a cellular communication network is described. A method implementation of that technique performed in an interfered terminal comprises receiving a signal, wherein the received signal comprises an interfering signal destined to at least one further terminal different from the interfered terminal. In a next step, control information pertaining to the at least one further terminal is determined and the interfering signal is decoded based on the control information so as to generate decoded information. Then, the interfering signal is re-generated from the decoded information and the control information. Based on the re-generated signal the interfering signal is cancelled from the received signal.

Interference cancellation in a cellular communication network

A data processing device is described comprising a first clock generator configured to generate a first clock signal with a first frequency; a second clock generator configured to generate a second clock signal with a second frequency, wherein the second frequency is higher than the first frequency; and a processing circuit configured to sample a clock cycle number of the second clock signal at a plurality of sample times given by the first clock signal and determine a relationship between the first frequency and the second frequency based on a minimization of a measure of a deviation of the sampled clock cycle numbers from the clock cycle numbers of the second clock signal at the plurality of sample times expected according to the determined relationship.

Data processing device and method for determining a clock relationship

A technique of processing an Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) transmission is disclosed. As to a method aspect of the technique, the method comprises the steps of requesting a retransmission of a transport block; receiving the retransmission of the transport block; and detecting modulation symbols. The retransmission is requested in response to an error-detecting code indicating an error in the transport block as received in at least one previous transmission. The modulation symbols are detected based on at least a part of the received retransmission and information from the at least one previous transmission. At least in some embodiments, a detection rate is thus improved.

Symbol detection technique

A technique for controlling a receiver to enter a micro sleep mode during which at least one receiver component is temporarily switched off is described. The receiver is configured to process sub-frames each having a first sub-frame portion followed by a second sub-frame portion, the first sub-frame portion carrying information indicative of whether or not the second sub-frame portion needs to be decoded. A method implementation of this technique comprises the steps of providing a regular micro sleep mode in which the receiver component is switched off after the first sub-frame portion has been decoded in case the decoding indicates that the second sub-frame portion does not need to be decoded, providing an extended micro sleep mode in which the receiver component is switched off immediately after the first sub-frame portion has been received, evaluating a mode setting criterion, and controlling the receiver to enter the regular micro sleep mode or the extended micro sleep mode depending on the mode setting criterion.

A technique for maintaining a radio time base used to schedule communication in a radio network () is provided. A method implementation () of the technique comprises determining () a course of a frequency relation; switching off () a reference oscillator () during a period of reduced power (); predicting () the frequency relation; restoring () the radio time base in or after the period of reduced power; and communicating () in the radio network at a time determined by the restored radio time base. The frequency relation is a relation between the reference oscillator and a clock (). The predicting is based on a result of the determination and the restoring is based on a result of the prediction. The frequency relation is predicted for a given time in or after the period of reduced power.

A communication device () for communicating in accordance with a hybrid automatic repeat request protocol, the communication device () comprising a receiving unit () adapted for receiving a communication message including soft-bit values, the soft-bit values representing reliability information for received verification data verifying proper transmission of the communication message, a storage unit () adapted for storing the soft-bit values, and a storage management unit () adapted for dynamically managing storage of the soft-bit values in the storage unit () so that soft-bit values failing to fulfill at least one relevance criteria are not maintained in the storage unit ().

Dynamic HARQ buffer management

A technique for radio resource management is proposed for controlling a wireless transceiver in a cellular communication system that comprises a scheduling channel configured to transport relative scheduling grants for signalling adjustments in transmission resources previously granted to the wireless transceiver. A method embodiment of this technique comprises the steps of deriving an amplitude parameter indicative of an instantaneous amplitude level of the scheduling channel, determining a threshold value taking into account the amplitude parameter, processing a scheduling signal received over the scheduling channel to obtain a signal sample comprising a relative scheduling grant, and subjecting the signal sample to a threshold decision based on the threshold value to decode the relative scheduling grant.

Technique for radio resource management

A technique for decoding a signal in a communication network is provided. A method implementation of the technique comprises the steps of receiving a signal; identifying a position in the signal; initializing a Viterbi state metric; and decoding the encoded signal by means of a wrap-around Viterbi algorithm. The received signal comprises information, wherein the signal is encoded by a tail-biting convolutional code. The identified position relates to a known portion of the information. The initialized Viterbi state metric is consistent with the known portion of the information. The decoding uses the initial Viterbi state metric, wherein the decoding starts at a decoding step following the identified position.

A technique for performing channel estimation based on a received signal comprising a first signal part and a second signal part in the presence of an unknown phase discontinuity between the first signal part and the second signal part is presented. A method implementation of this technique comprises providing a first channel parameter that is based on the first signal part, determining a second channel parameter based on the second signal part, estimating the phase discontinuity from the first channel parameter and the second channel parameter, updating the first channel parameter based on the estimated phase discontinuity, and determining a channel estimate based on the second signal part including performing channel estimation filtering using the updated first channel parameter as filter state information.

The invention relates to a technique for controlling a synchronization of a terminal device () with a wireless network, e.g. an LTE network, wherein data are transmitted as a continuous data signal on a radio interface () while being processed block-wise in the terminal (). A method embodiment of the technique for achieving at least a downlink () synchronization comprises establishing a time-address mapping (TAM,) indicative of an association of a reference time value of an internal clock () with a reference address in the reception data buffer (); determining an address of data samples representing the received data block in the reception data buffer () based on the time-address mapping; and initiating a block-wise reading of the data block from the reception data buffer () based on the determined address.

Technique for synchronizing a terminal device with a wireless network

A receiving apparatus for a digital mobile communication system comprises an adaptive filter for filtering an input signal. A step-size parameter chosen for the adaption of filter coefficients of the adaptive filter is computed from a variation of the filter coefficients used by the adaptive filter. This facilitates an indirect measure for the channel variation so that a good reception quality over a wide range of user velocities may be enabled in contrast to a system design based on a compromise step-size parameter being optimum for one velocity only.

A technique for generating a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) signal is described, in which from a set of M input symbols a set of N output symbols (M&#x3c;N) is generated. A method implementation of this technique comprises receiving a set of M input symbols in a time domain representation, subjecting the set of M input symbols to an interpolation operation in the time domain to obtain L interpolated samples (L&#x2266;N), mapping the interpolated symbols, or symbols derived from the interpolated symbols, to N orthogonal sub-carriers, and outputting N output symbols in a time domain representation.

Single carrier frequency division multiple access technique

A technique for generating a Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) signal based on a Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation (CAZAC) sequence is disclosed. A method embodiment of this technique comprises generating a frequency domain representation of the CAZAC sequence by providing an analytical representation of the CAZAC sequence in the frequency domain with an integer phase term and calculating the integer phase term in a recursive manner for each of a plurality of frequency domain samples of the CAZAC sequence. The resulting frequency domain representation of the CAZAC sequence is then mapped to a pre-determined frequency location before being transformed into the time domain to obtain a time domain representation of the SC-FDMA signal. The SC-FDMA signal may be a random access signal for transmission on a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH).
