A method and device for diagnosing a low pressure exhaust gas recirculation system (LPEGRS) of an internal combustion engine having an intake area for supplying fresh air which includes in succession in the flow direction a first section having a low pressure in which an air mass flow sensor is situated, a compressor and a second section having a high pressure, the engine exhaust area including a second section having a low exhaust gas pressure, and the LPEGRS which has an adjustable LPEGR valve recirculating at least a portion of the exhaust gas in the second section of the exhaust area to the first section of the intake area. The fresh air mass flow taken in is measured by the air mass flow sensor, the total mass flow flowing through the compressor being ascertained, the LPEGR mass flow being ascertained from the difference between the total mass flow and the fresh air mass flow taken in, an estimated value being calculated for the LPEGR mass flow, the difference between the ascertained LPEGR mass flow and the estimated value being formed, and an error signal being output for a deviation. The procedure is for detecting exhaust gas-relevant errors.

Described is a method for operating an internal combustion engine (), in which method at least one parameter of the exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust-gas duct () is detected by at least one exhaust-gas probe (), wherein the internal combustion engine () is at least temporarily turned over by a starting device (), during which an injection and combustion of fuel does not take place, and during and/or after which the exhaust-gas probe () is adjusted.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine

A method for metering a fuel into at least one exhaust duct of an internal combustion engine and a device for implementing the method. The fuel is converted in an exothermic reaction for achieving a specified setpoint temperature of a component to be heated. The required metering quantity of the fuel is calculated with the inclusion of a model of the exothermic reaction. The method makes it possible to achieve the specified setpoint temperature of the component to be heated or of the exhaust gas in front of the component to be heated using a minimal quantity of fuel.

A procedure to operate a metering device of an exhaust gas emission control system of an internal combustion engine and a device to implement the procedure are proposed. At least one component in an exhaust gas emission control configuration of the exhaust gas emission control system requires at least in certain operating conditions a reagent substance, which the metering device provides, in which a connecting line is disposed. After the emergence of a metering demand signal a reagent substance rate-set point is established. The reagent substance rate-set point is either established immediately when the metering demand signal occurs and subsequently no longer changed until the connecting line is filled with the reagent substance; or the reagent substance rate-set point is only then established if the connecting line is filled with the reagent substance. An overdose of the reagent substance is avoided with the procedural approach according to the invention.

Procedure to operate a metering device of an exhaust gas emission control system and device to implement the procedure

A procedure to operate a particle filter disposed in an exhaust gas area of an internal combustion engine and a device to implement the procedure are proposed. The particle filter is regenerated if required by the particles lodged in the filter, whereby the particle filter is heated for regeneration by manipulation of the exhaust gas temperature upstream in front of the particle filter. During the regeneration of the particle filter, the exhaust gas temperature is established to a specified exhaust gas temperature set point, which is dependent upon at least one parameter of the particle filter during the regeneration. The procedural approach according to the invention allows for a quick regeneration of the particle filter without endangering the particle filter with an inadmissibly high temperature.
