A system of a vehicle includes: a torque request module configured to determine a first engine torque request based on a driver input and to set a second engine torque request to a lesser one of (a) the first engine torque request and (b) an engine torque limit; and a torque limit module configured to, when a vehicle speed is less than a predetermined speed, an accelerator pedal position is greater than a predetermined accelerator pedal position, and a brake torque request for braking of the vehicle is greater than a predetermined torque, set the engine torque limit to less than the first engine torque request.

Systems and methods for limiting engine torque and controlling a clutch

A system for monitoring and controlling vehicle operation includes a monitoring unit disposed at a vehicle, the vehicle including rear brakes and front brakes, the monitoring unit configured to monitor driver inputs, and automatically detect a driver's intention to perform a combined brake and propulsion maneuver based on the driver inputs meeting a first set of conditions. The system also includes a control unit configured to receive a brake request and an engine torque request from the driver during the maneuver, and based on detecting the first set of conditions, apply a front braking force via the front brakes according to the brake request, and automatically control a rear braking force applied by the rear brakes during the maneuver, so that the rear braking force is less than the front braking force.

Brake distribution control for combined brake and propulsion maneuvers

Presented are hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrains and control logic for optimized regenerative braking (regen), methods for making/using such systems, and HEVs with increased regen through reduced engine and transmission friction. A method of operating an HEV includes determining if an REV operating state or fault prevents engagement of a regen control operation and, if not, responsively determining if a torque request for the REV's powertrain is less than a road load on the HEV. The regen control operation is executed responsive to the torque request being less than the road load. The regen control operation includes the power transmission drivingly disconnecting the engine from the road wheels, and the engine operating at a target engine speed. A negative torque offset to maintain a vehicle deceleration rate after disconnecting the engine from the road wheels is calculated; the traction motor outputs a negative torque based on this negative torque offset.

Optimized regenerative braking for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain configurations

A powertrain system includes a clutch pedal module, a gear selector module, a powertrain control module, a motor, and a transmission. The clutch pedal is selectively disposed in one of a first clutch position and a second clutch position. The gear shift lever is selectively disposed in one of a plurality of forward gear positions and a reverse gear position. The powertrain control module operates a control logic sequence to convert the input signals to a plurality of transmission output signals. The transmission is an automatic transmission operating in a manual mode having gear selection controlled by the driver.
