A controller may map user equipment (UE) devices in a wireless system to access points (AP) and reflective intelligent surfaces (RIS). The controller may generate a corresponding communications schedule based on the locations of the UE device(s), AP(s), and RIS(s) and based on current traffic demands. The controller may control the RIS(s), AP(s), and UE devices to implement the schedule. The schedule may divide the time, frequency, and/or spatial resources of the RIS(s) to meet the traffic demands of the UE devices using a space division multiple access scheme, a time-division multiple access scheme, a frequency-division multiple access scheme, and/or a distributed multiple-input and multiple output scheme. The schedule may be updated over time as needed. The RIS(s) may allow for a reduction in the number of AP(s) required to meet the dynamic demands of the UE devices, thereby minimizing deployment and operating costs.

Resource allocation for communication via reflective surfaces

A system may include a client device running multiple client-side applications and server equipment running multiple server-side applications. One or more traffic aggregators may be provided between the client-side applications and the server-side applications. Each traffic aggregator may aggregate application traffic from the multiple applications to form one or more classes of aggregated data. Interfaces may be provided between the traffic aggregators and the applications to customize application traffic. Traffic aggregators in the system may be dynamically updated.

A communication system may include an access point (AP), a user equipment (UE), and a communication path between the AP and the UE having a series of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS's). Each RIS may have a first beam pointing to a previous node and a second beam pointing to a next node in the communication path. Beams of routing RIS's and a beam from an end user RIS towards a last routing RIS may be set during calibration. The UE may perform beam discovery with the end user RIS. The UE and the AP may convey wireless data via reflections off each of the RIS's in the communication path. The beam of the end user RIS may be updated to track the UE device while the other the beams remain fixed. The beams may be calibrated using retroreflection and beam variation for each pair of RIS's up the communication path.

Communication via multiple reconfigurable intelligent surfaces

A method of communicating between a physical control device and an electronic device is disclosed herein, the physical control device having a plurality of conductive protrusions detectable by a touch screen of the electronic device when placed in contact with the touch screen. The method comprises identifying, via the electronic device, the physical control device in contact with the touch screen based on a conductive pattern of the conductive protrusions detected by a capacitive touch sensor panel of the touch screen. The method further includes performing a first action at the electronic device in accordance with an input to the physical control device that causes a change in a characteristic of the conductive pattern of the plurality of conductive protrusions detected by the capacitive touch sensor panel, and ignoring a touch input at the capacitive touch sensor panel from a housing of the physical control device.

Methods, systems, and circuitries are provided to generate clock signals of different qualities in a device. A method includes determining whether the device is operating in a mid power mode or a high power mode. In response to determining that the device is operating in the mid power mode, oscillator circuitry is controlled to cause the oscillator circuitry to consume a lower amount of power, such that the oscillator circuitry generates a lower quality clock signal. In response to determining that the device is operating in the high power mode, the oscillator circuitry is controlled to cause the oscillator circuitry to consume a higher amount of power, such that the oscillator circuitry generates a higher quality clock signal. The lower amount of power and the higher amount of power are different from one another.

The apparatus of a first wireless communication device includes memory comprising instructions and processing circuitry coupled to the memory. The processing circuitry is to implement the instructions to establish a wireless connection between the first wireless communication device and a second wireless communication device according to a wireless connectivity protocol, establish, using the wireless connectivity protocol, a location profile communication cluster including the first device and the second device, and within the communication cluster: process a message from the second device including location information and determine a provision of location services for the cluster based on the location information.

A technique for performing layerprocessing is described. In a method implementation of this technique, at least one first RLC SDU is created from one or more first RLC PDUs. It is assumed here that the first RLC SDU belongs to an incomplete RLC SDU set that is to comprise at least one second RLC SDU, and that the second RLC SDU is to be created from at least one second RLC PDU not yet available. In a next step, a first PDCP function is applied to the first RLC SDU to create a data packet. The RLC function is only performed after the second RLC PDU has become available (or after an RLC time-out). Then, after the RLC function has been performed, the data packet is released to a second PDCP function.

In one implementation, the layer 2 processing circuit chip () comprises an external memory interface configured to provide access to data packets stored in an external memory (), a layer 2 processor () coupled to the external memory interface () and configured to process data packets retrieved from the external memory () to generate RLC SDUs, and an on-chip memory () coupled to the layer 2 processor () and configured to store the RLC PDUs generated by the layer 2 processor () prior to their transmission. Upon a request to retransmit an RLC PDU, the layer 2 processor () is configured to selectively read the RLC PDU to be retransmitted from the on-chip memory () or a data packet comprising the RLC PDU to be retransmitted from the external memory (). In the latter case, the layer 2 processor () is further configured to re-generate the RLC PDU to be retransmitted from the data packet read from the external memory (). The selectivity of the read operation depends on whether or not the RLC PDU to be retransmitted belongs to a data packet that has been completely transmitted in a single layer 1 transport unit.

Technique for performing layer 2 processing using a distributed memory architecture

A technique for synchronizing different network access modules in a mobile communication device is provided. A device embodiment () comprises a first network access module () having a first radio technology, or RAT, interface () and being clocked at a first clock frequency and a second network access module () having a second RAT interface () and being clocked at a second clock frequency, wherein the first clock frequency is different from the second clock frequency. A method implementation of this technique comprises the steps of generating a clock signal having the first clock frequency, outputting the clock signal for use as a first reference clock signal in the first network access module (), converting the clock signal to the second clock frequency, and outputting the converted clock signal for is use a second reference clock signal in the second network access module ().
