Gesture-based association of multiple devices may be facilitated, which may effectuate presentation of content related to associated devices. Gesture detection may reduce or completely eliminate any ambiguity of whether the association is wanted or not. Some implementations may be employed in a theme park in which park guests wear an RFID wristband. During a park visit, when merchandise goods with embedded RFIDs are purchased (e.g., toys and/or other merchandise), the merchandise may be associated with the wristband and, therefore, the park guest wearing the wristband. Such association may give the theme park environment and/or the toy itself a mechanism to adapt their behavior depending on which toy the park guest is carrying. This may contribute to richer storytelling and personalized experiences, which may be realized by using location information, knowledge about the park guest's preferences or previous park visits, favorite attractions, age, language-specific information, and/or other information.

Facilitating gesture-based association of multiple devices

Described herein are methods, systems, apparatuses and products for managing location services in wireless networks. One aspect provides a method of receiving in a mobile device an identifier broadcast from a terrestrial wireless device located at a particular position; and using the identifier broadcast from the terrestrial wireless device to determine a physical location of the mobile device even in absence of a logical connection existing between the mobile device and the terrestrial wireless device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

System and method for managing location services in wireless networks

Systems, methods, and computer program code are disclosed for prioritizing data transmission in wireless broadcasting systems and include capturing, by one or more sensors, data at an event site. Scene description data (SDD) is extracted from the data, and the SDD is transmitted in SDD packets, over a wireless communication network, to a processing system. The SDD packets are transmitted over the wireless communication network having a transmission priority based on information in at least one of the SDD packets. The sensors may include a video camera that provides video data also transmitted in video packets over the wireless communications network.

Method and apparatus for prioritizing data transmission in a wireless broadcasting system

Systems, methods, apparatus, methods and computer program code are disclosed for operating automated video broadcasting systems and include capturing, by a video camera, video data at an event site. Scene description data is extracted from the video data, and the scene description data is transmitted, over a wireless communication network, to a video processing system. The video data is transmitted separately from the scene description data from the video camera to the video processing system over the wireless communication network.

Method and apparatus for low-latency camera control in a wireless broadcasting system

Systems and methods for communicating information between user devices and physical objects which are separate from the user devices. The physical objects may store information related to one or more online games associated with the physical objects. The user devices may obtain the information stored by the physical objects via light communication. The user devices may use the obtained information in order to effectuate presentation of a virtual character and/or virtual object in an online game corresponding to the information.

Light communication between user devices and physical objects

Shaking patterns and/or environmental information associated with real-world handheld devices may form a basis for enabling authentication and/or effectuating events in a virtual environment. The handheld devices may include toys and/or other object that can be used to play. The handheld devices may be associated with the virtual environment in that individual handheld devices may share an appearance and/or theme with an avatar, a virtual object, and/or other element within the virtual environment. Shaking a pair of handheld devices together may facilitate authentication of the handheld devices with respect to the virtual environment and/or effectuate one or more events within the virtual environment. Shake patterns may be used in conjunction with geo-location and/or environmental information to improve pairing between handheld devices.

Enabling authentication and/or effectuating events in virtual environments based on shaking patterns and/or environmental information associated with real-world handheld devices

An audio-based navigation system for determining a present location or position of a mobile device such as a smartphone within a venue. The system includes a sound system with a first speaker playing first audio content and a second speaker playing second audio content. The first speaker is positioned in a first space in a venue, and the second speaker is positioned in a second space of the venue. The navigation system also includes a mobile device with memory storing a database of fingerprints of a plurality of differing audio content. The mobile device includes a microphone for receiving an audio signal associated with the first audio content or with the second audio content. The mobile device includes a processor(s) selectively running software to determine the mobile device location in the first or second space using either fingerprinting or watermarking module by processing the received audio signal.

Audiolocation system combining use of audio fingerprinting and audio watermarking

Techniques are disclosed for acoustic data reception. Playback of modified audio content is acoustically detected by a first receiving entity and a second receiving entity operatively connected to the first receiving entity via a network. The modified audio content is generated by encoding specified data into specified audio content such that the modified audio content satisfies a predefined signal constraint characterizing imperceptibility of any differences between playback of the specified audio content and playback of the modified audio content. The specified data is collaboratively decoded based on the acoustically detected playback of the modified audio content and by the first receiving entity and the second receiving entity using the network and according to a predefined diversity scheme.

Acoustic data transmission based on groups of audio receivers

LEDs that transmit or receive data in a VLC channel may create a flickering effect which is caused by the human eye being able to perceive the fluctuations of the light intensity in a LED. To prevent flickering such that the LED is perceived as being illuminated at a constant intensity, the LEDs may emit light based on a pattern of dark and energy slots. During the dark slots, the LEDs may be reversed bias to determine how much light is received. Based on comparing the light received, each VLC system may synchronize respective clocks such that the dark slots align. The VLC systems may then transmit a data frame preamble instructing the other VLC systems to cease synchronization and use the dark slots to receive the data from the data frame. While transmitting the data frame, the VLC systems may continue to use the energy slots to prevent flicker.

Reliable visibile light communication with dark light synchronization

There is provided a system and method for transmitting a data packet from a transmitting device to a destination device using an intermediary device. The transmitting device configured to determine an identity of the destination device, generate an announcement message that includes the identity of the destination device, transmit the announcement message to an intermediary device, receive an acknowledgement message from the intermediary device in response to transmitting the announcement message to the intermediary device, and transmit the data packet to the intermediary device for delivery to the destination device.

Power saving for multi-hop communications

Wireless local area networks (WLANs) provide wireless communication between various wireless devices. Frames are acknowledged (ACKed) after a short and predefined MAC idle time. The MAC idle time varies with 1) the physical distance between wireless devices, caused by the delay of wireless signal propagation, and 2) the time to detect the ACK at the local wireless device, which varies with the signal strength of the incoming ACK. Embodiments present CAESAR (CArriEr Sense-bAsed Ranging), which combines time of flight (TOF) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements to calculate the distance between two wireless devices. CAESAR measures the distance by estimating the MAC idle time in a data/ACK communication at a particular clock resolution and the ACK detection time on a per-frame basis. Performance measurements confirm the accuracy of the solution and show the capability to track the distance to WLAN smart phones at pedestrian speeds.

Carrier sense-based ranging

LEDs that transmit or receive data in a VLC may create a flickering effect which is observed when the human eye is able to perceive the fluctuations of the light intensity in a LED. To prevent flickering, the LEDs may emit light based on a pattern of data and energy intervals. During the data intervals, a LED transmitting a message sends one or more data symbols to receiving LEDs. The receiving LEDs, however, are reversed bias and do not emit light. During the energy intervals, any LED in the VLC system may emit light. Each LED uses the energy interval to compensate for the light transmitted (or not transmitted) during the data interval. The combination of data and energy levels results in an observer seeing light with a constant intensity rather than changing intensity.

Visible light communication with flickering prevention

Described herein are methods, systems, apparatuses and products for managing location services in wireless networks. One aspect provides for broadcasting an identifier from a terrestrial wireless device in a determinable position; repeatedly changing the identifier broadcast from the terrestrial wireless device; and associating a current identifier broadcast from the terrestrial wireless device with a physical location. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems, methods, and devices for operating a multiplex wireless local area network using separated uplink and downlink channels in the 802.11 and television white space (TVWS) spectra are disclosed. Opportunistic detection and use of available TVWS frequency channels allows for fixed and mobile wireless devices to more efficiently use the available wireless bandwidth. By using separated uplink and downlink channels, a fixed wireless device can listen to incoming uplink frames from other mobile and fixed wireless devices and monitor for uplink frame collisions. In the event of an uplink frame collision, the fixed wireless device can immediately send a stop frame in the downlink channel to all involved wireless devices to avoid lost channel time due to the delay caused by most acknowledgement-based collision recovery protocols. Similarly, communicating mobile and fixed wireless devices can transmit and receive data frames in both directions simultaneously.
