A medical fastening system for a modular knee prosthesis system includes a femoral component having a first surface, a second surface, and an aperture extending therebetween. A modular adapter element has a first end that is mountable adjacent the first surface of the femoral component and a second, mating end that is engagable with a second prosthesis component. The system also includes a first bolt that mates the adapter element to the femoral component. Various connection options are possible to secure different components of the system to each other.

Medical fastening system

A knee joint prosthesis includes a femoral component, a tibial plateau, and a tibial bearing member. The design and geometry of the articulation surfaces of the condylar elements of the femoral component and tibial bearing member is such that contact area between the articulation surfaces is maximized during flexion of the prosthesis. This is achieved by increasing the coronal radius of the bearing surfaces of the femoral component in the anterior to posterior direction along the bearing surface, i.e., increasing the coronal radius of the bearing surfaces of the femoral component as the femoral component transitions from extension to flexion.

Femoral component condyle design for knee prosthesis

A medical fastening system for a modular knee prosthesis includes a femoral component having an aperture. A washer having an aperture alignable with at least a portion of the aperture in the femoral component engages the femoral component to inhibit movement of the washer through the aperture in the femoral component. A bolt engages the washer and an elongate shaft portion of the bolt protrudes from the femoral component through the aperture in the washer and the aperture in the femoral component to engage a Morse taper post or femoral stem. The configuration of the washer aperture, its location in the washer, and the orientation of the washer within the femoral component determine the fore and aft positioning of the Morse taper post or femoral stem. The Morse taper post or femoral stem can be provided with a canted base to angle the post or stem with respect to the femoral component.

A modular knee prosthesis includes a Morse taper post that is matable with a first portion of a femoral sleeve. A second portion of the femoral sleeve is joined with a femoral stem that is introducible within the medullary canal of a distal portion of a femur. In an exemplary embodiment, the modular knee prosthesis includes a femoral component, a bolt, and a Morse taper post. The femoral component has a superior surface, an inferior surface, and an aperture. The bolt includes a head portion engagable with the superior surface of the femoral component to inhibit movement of the bolt through the femoral component, and an elongate shaft portion that extends from the head portion of the bolt. The elongate shaft portion has a length sufficient to protrude through the aperture beyond the inferior surface of the femoral component. The Morse taper post is engagable with the elongate shaft portion of the bolt to retain the Morse taper post in a fixed position with respect to the femoral component and the distal end of the Morse taper post is introducible within a femoral sleeve.

Modular knee prosthesis

A patellar component is provided for fixation to a patella and a total knee arthroplasty surgical procedure in which multiple surfaces are provided on an outer ring on the inferior surface of the patellar component to provide multi-directional load bearing surfaces available to resist loosening of the patellar component and which requires minimal bone removal for implantation.

Patellar resurfacing component

An augmentation system for a femoral component of a knee prosthesis includes a main augmentation block and a secondary block disposed within the main augmentation block. The secondary block is adjustably positioned within the main augmentation block such that relative motion between the two facilitates easy and secure fixture of the augmentation system within a prosthesis. The augmentation system of the invention can be used with either left or right side prostheses.

Femoral augmentation system for artificial knee joint

A modular knee prosthesis includes a femoral component having a pair of spaced apart condylar portions each having a superior articulating surface and an inferior surface, and a boss structure disposed between and connecting the condylar portions. The prosthesis further includes an elongate stem member that mounts within the medullary canal of a distal portion of a femur, a collar and at least one securing bolt. The collar mounts upon the external end of the stem member, and has a distal surface that is substantially transverse to a longitudinal axis of the stem member when mounted thereon. The collar distal surface and the inferior surface of the boss structure define a selected mounting angle therebetween, and the securing bolt, which is adapted to mount within an aperture formed in the boss structure, has a head portion with a spherical first surface from which an elongate shaft portion extends. The shaft of the securing bolt can be disposed at a generally centrally located position or at a non-centrally located position on the head portion of the bolt.
