The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp having an ignition aid and comprising a discharge vessel, which is accommodated in an outer bulb. The ignition aid is a UV enhancer having a can-like container (), which has an inner electrode (). At least part of the end-face edge of the inner electrode at least comes close to the end face () of the container (). An external electrode is attached to the outside of the container.

A high-pressure discharge lamp having an ignition aid, may include a discharge vessel which is fitted in an outer bulb, wherein a UV enhancer is fitted as an ignition aid in the outer bulb, wherein the UV enhancer comprises a UV-transparent can-like container having an inner wall and end side and longitudinal axis, the container enclosing with its inner wall a cavity which is filled with a gas that can emit UV radiation, an inner vent electrode, which has at least one bend or kink, being fitted in the cavity in such a way that a bend or kink lie as close as possible to the inner wall of the container, and wherein an external electrode is applied externally in the vicinity of the container.

A high-pressure discharge lamp with a starting aid, may include a discharge vessel, wherein the discharge vessel has two ends with seals, in which electrodes are fastened, wherein the starting aid is fitted on the outside of the discharge vessel, wherein the starting aid has a local field amplifier having a configuration with at least one tip or edge or structure with a small radius of curvature, and wherein the starting aid produces a corona discharge which emits UV radiation into the discharge vessel.

A high-pressure discharge lamp having an ignition aid may be provided, having a discharge vessel that is surrounded by gas, wherein the discharge vessel includes two ends having fusings in which electrodes are secured, wherein an ignition aid is fastened on at least one fusing, wherein the ignition aid has a local field amplifier in the form of a tip or a curved part, wherein the ignition aid is configured to cause a corona discharge in the surrounding gas which emits UV radiation into the discharge vessel.

A high-pressure discharge lamp having an ignition aid is provided. The discharge lamp may include: a discharge vessel consisting of ceramic or quartz glass which is sealed at two ends and which is accommodated in an outer bulb which is likewise sealed at two ends, the discharge vessel having two ends in which electrodes are fastened, two power supply lines holding the discharge vessel in the outer bulb, a UV enhancer with a single electrode as ignition aid being accommodated in the outer bulb, wherein the UV enhancer is positioned in the vicinity of a second end of the discharge vessel, while a feed line is routed from the first power supply line along the discharge vessel and is connected to the UV enhancer, the feed line being capacitively coupled to the first power supply line, the UV enhancer being installed between the feed line and the second power supply line.

A method for igniting and for starting high-pressure discharge lamps is provided. The method may include applying a takeover voltage to the lamp for a predetermined time of a burst; superimposing ignition pulses on the takeover voltage in such a way that the voltage of the ignition pulses and the takeover voltage are added up and an interruption being provided between two bursts; and changing the ignition pulses from burst to burst or within a burst from the positive half-cycle of the takeover voltage to the negative half-cycle of the takeover voltage, and vice versa.
