A method for operating a machine for producing and/or processing a material web, wherein a first drive unit is supplied by a converter with a current, a vibration propagating over the material web is captured via the first drive unit, the vibration is measured and transformed into a measurement signal that is examined for presence of a signature that differs from the basic waveform of the current, a web tear is thus identified if the signature propagating over the material web is missing during the evaluation of the electrical measurement signal, whereby no further sensors, in particular optical sensors, are required to capture the measurement signal, and the measurement also occurs independently of a torque, a speed or speed development of drive motors over time and, moreover, the detection of the web tear does not require a comparison measurement at the machine without a continuous material web.

A digital decimation filter which includes a multiplexer which receives signal values x.sub.i at a sampling rate of 1/T and where output signals which have half the sampling rate are supplied to two outputs. Separate bit associated circuits BP1 and BP2 are connected to the outputs for each significant figure of the p-place binary filter coefficients c6 through c1 and each of the bit associated circuits include partial products stages Mc6.sub.0 . . . Mc1.sub.0, Mc6.sub.1 . . . Mc1.sub.1 for all of the filter coefficient bits and the bit associated circuits also contain adder-register iterative circuits including delay elements and the output of the iterative circuit of the most significant bit plane BP2 is the output of the filter.

Digital decimation filter

ECL-compatible input/output circuits in CMOS technology which meet very strict ECL level demands and are as independent as possible of temperature and field effect transistor parameter fluctuations. This is achieved by a control circuit for reference currents of the current mirror circuits. The control circuit is composed of a sensor stage, of a comparator, of a low-pass filter and of a reference current source. Current mirror circuits are also utilized in the driver stages and in the sensor stage.

ECL-compatible input/output circuits in CMOS technology

Organic samples from a liquid chromatograph are deposited on a conveyor belt which transports them into a vacuum chamber at the entry end of a mass spectrometer. The samples are ionized directly on the belt by particle bombardment or by means of a laser beam. Ionization is enhanced by applying an oxide layer to the belt, by neutralizing the image force, and by vaporizing alkali atoms on the belt to reduce the ionization potential.
