A method includes operating a water electrolysis device for producing hydrogen and oxygen from water. A PEM electrolyzer () is integrated in a water circuit () in the electrolysis device. The water circuit () feeds reaction water as well as discharges excess water. The water circuit () is lead past the PEM electrolyzer () via a bypass conduit () on starting up the water electrolysis device.

Method for operating a water electrolysis device

A method for operating a water electrolysis device produces hydrogen and oxygen from water. In the electrolysis device, water which comes from a PEM electrolyzer () is fed to a first heat exchanger () for cooling, subsequently to an ion exchanger (), then to a second heat exchanger () for heating and again to the PEM electrolyzer (), in a water circuit (). The heat exchangers () form part of a common heat transfer medium circuit () at a secondary side. The heat transfer medium circuit includes a cooling device (), through which the heat transfer medium flow is selectively led in a complete or partial manner or not at all, for the control and/or regulation of the temperature of the water which is fed to the ion exchanger () and/or to the PEM electrolyzer ().

A method for operating a water electrolysis device for produces hydrogen and oxygen from water. A throughflow direction is reversed by way of a suitable activation of valves () in order to increase a service life of a PEM electrolyzer (). This is effected periodically such that an equal throughflow in both directions is effected, by which the service life is increased.

A method for operating an electrolysis device () for producing hydrogen uses a water circuit. Water from a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzer () is cooled in a cooling device () and subsequently led to an ion exchanger () for processing the water. The water, after the processing in the ion exchanger (), is fed to the PEM electrolyzer (). Heat is removed from the water before feeding the water to the cooling device (). A part of this removed heat is fed again to the water after the processing in the ion exchanger () and before entry into the PEM electrolyzer ().

Electrolysis device and method for operating an electrolysis device

A method is provided for running up/starting up an electrolysis device (), which device includes a reactor container () which is arranged downstream of an electrolyzer () and in which oxygen reacts with hydrogen into water, in order to reduce an oxygen share in a hydrogen gas flow coming from the electrolyzer (). The electrolysis device () is operated with a predefined operating pressure. Upon running up/starting up the electrolyzer (), the hydrogen gas flow coming from the electrolyzer () is led past the reactor container () via a bypass conduit ().
