A speed of a rail vehicle equipped with a first chassis unit is determined. A chassis speed measurement variable is provided by a sensor unit. Inertial measurement variables are detected by an inertial measurement unit; a reference speed characteristic value is formed; an inertial speed characteristic value is determined by a calculation unit based on the inertial measurement variables, in a first operating mode, to estimate a deviation in the inertial calculation based on the reference speed characteristic value; the inertial speed characteristic value is determined, in a second operating mode, without taking into account the reference speed characteristic value. If an anomalous provision process of the chassis speed measurement variable is detected by a recognition unit on the basis of a reference characteristic value and the chassis speed measurement value, the inertial calculation is performed according to the second operating mode.

An energy conversion device for a vehicle is particularly suited for a rail vehicle. The energy conversion device has, in at least one mode, a unit which operates as a generator unit and has at least one synchronous machine, and which has at least one energy discharge unit which is provided for discharging at least a portion of an electrical energy generated by the generator unit, and has at least one resistor unit. The novel energy discharge unit has at least one control unit which is provided to set operating modes from a set of operating modes in which the resistor unit makes available a different resistance value in each case.

The invention relates to a 1st power supply arrangement for a rail vehicle. The rail vehicle includes at least one driven car with an intermediate circuit, a brake system and an energy supply system for supplying the brake system with operating energy. In order to improve the framework conditions to ensure reliable electrodynamic braking, the energy supply system contains at least two energy supply units, for the driven car, arranged at the intermediate circuit, for the redundant energy supply to the brake system.

A rail vehicle braking device has at least one first electrodynamic brake with a drive unit that includes at least one drive motor and a power supply unit for supplying the drive motor in a traction mode of the drive unit. A brake control unit controls, in a first brake mode, the respective power supply unit for providing a braking effect. In order to optimize the system with a fall-back measure in case of a braking effect loss in respect of the cause thereof, there is provided at least one sensor unit, which detects a braking effect parameter for the first braking mode of the brake. A monitoring device is assigned to the first brake. It is independent of the brake control unit and considers, in a first monitoring mode, the braking effect parameter for the introduction of a fall-back measure concerning the brake.
