A method for analyzing a fluid that flows from a chamber, in particular a combustion chamber, of an internal combustion engine into a fluid guide. The internal combustion engine includes at least one element, in particular an injector, for the supply of fuel. The analysis takes place with the aid of a sensor, in particular a lambda sensor, on which the fluid in the fluid guide acts. The analysis takes place during cranking of the internal combustion engine, and the fluid acting on the sensor is not influenced by fuel that is supplied in a controlled manner.

A method for operating a combustion engine after a cold start, the combustion engine including a supercharger device, a plurality of combustion chambers, a fuel-injection device injecting into each of the combustion chambers, and a gas-exchange valve control device that controls gas-exchange valves in a variable manner. A rich fuel-air mixture is generated in the combustion chambers, and the combustion-chamber charges are ignited in a retarded manner. Following the cold start, the combustion engine is operated with first valve overlaps that are greater than in a warm combustion engine. A first exhaust valve of a first combustion chamber is initially closed at such a late point that its opening duration overlaps with the opening duration of a second exhaust valve of a second combustion chamber that directly follows the first combustion chamber in the ignition sequence and that discharges into the same exhaust manifold as the first combustion chamber.

Method for operating a combustion engine following a cold start

In a method for operating a forced-induction internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle with variable compression, provision is made that the variable compression is pilot-controlled in such a way that a selected compression is established as a function of combustion efficiency and of the mechanical stress on components of the internal combustion engine, such that elevated compression is provided in the naturally aspirated range and/or decreased compression is provided in the forced-induction range. The variable compression is generated by phase shifting of a camshaft of the internal combustion engine, or by cam switching by way of a variable valve train.
