A circuit arrangement includes a preprocessing circuit configured to obtain context information related to a user location, a learning circuit configured to determine a predicted user movement based on context information related to a user location to obtain a predicted route and to determine predicted radio conditions along the predicted route, and a decision circuit configured to, based on the predicted radio conditions, identify one or more first areas expected to have a first type of radio conditions and one or more second areas expected to have a second type of radio conditions different from the first type of radio conditions and to control radio activity while traveling on the predicted route according to the one or more first areas and the one or more second areas.

The processing circuitry may be configured to estimate a communication channel for a multi-carrier signal based on a received reference signal, the multi-carrier signal aggregating a plurality of component carriers. During a transmission time interval of the multi-carrier signal, the UE can perform a global search over a beam search space to obtain a beam index recommendation for a component carrier of the plurality of component carriers. The beam index recommendation corresponds to a maximized channel quality metric of the estimated communication channel and is indicative of a beam grid within the beam search space. The UE can perform a localized search of a subset of the beam search space to obtain a second beam index recommendation for a second component carrier of the plurality of component carriers.

Technology for a user equipment (UE) operable to perform carrier measurements in a wireless network is disclosed. The UE can receive, from a network element, switching parameters that indicate possible switching occasions for the UE. The UE can be configured to switch a radio frequency (RF) to another carrier frequency during the possible switching occasions in order to start performing carrier measurements or stop performing carrier measurements. The UE can send, to the network element, a switching notification that indicates an upcoming switching occasion that is selected by the UE. The switching notification can be sent in conjunction with a measurement value that indicates one or more of: selected carriers for which the UE is to start performing carrier measurements after an occurrence of the switching occasion or selected carriers for which the UE is to stop performing carrier measurements after the occurrence of the switching occasion.
