A method for metering a fuel into at least one exhaust duct of an internal combustion engine and a device for implementing the method. The fuel is converted in an exothermic reaction for achieving a specified setpoint temperature of a component to be heated. The required metering quantity of the fuel is calculated with the inclusion of a model of the exothermic reaction. The method makes it possible to achieve the specified setpoint temperature of the component to be heated or of the exhaust gas in front of the component to be heated using a minimal quantity of fuel.

Method for metering a fuel into an exhaust duct of an internal combustion engine and a device for implementing the method

The disclosure concerns a procedure for the regeneration of a particle filter and the desulfurization of a NOstorage catalytic converter in an exhaust gas aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine. The disclosed procedure allows for the necessary heating energy and fuel consumption required to completely or partially regenerating the particle filter to be significantly reduced. Furthermore, an increase in efficiency of the NOstorage catalytic converter results, because the process reduces the average sulfur absorption on account of a greater frequency of desulfurization phases. In so doing, the NOemissions after the NOstorage catalytic converter can further be reduced.

A method for operating an internal combustion engine in which at least one secondary fuel injection is carried out, and a device for implementing the method. The level of the motor oil of the internal combustion engine is ascertained, which is compared to a first threshold value for the maximum possible oil level. If a threshold is exceeded, a warning signal is provided. Preferably an oil-dilution signal, which is a measure for the quantity and/or the volume of the oil dilution input into the motor oil of the internal combustion engine by the at least one secondary fuel injection, is taken into account when ascertaining the oil level.

Described is a method for controlling a temperature downstream of a catalyst in the exhaust tract of an internal combustion engine including a first control loop in which a first control variable is calculated from a first deviation that is calculated from a first actual value and a first setpoint value and influences an intra-engine heat generation. In the process, the first actual value is determined as a measure of a temperature downstream of the catalyst. The method features a second control loop in which at least one second control variable is calculated from a second deviation that is calculated from a second actual value and a second setpoint value; a temperature upstream of the catalyst being determined as the second actual value. Also described is a controller which controls the sequence of such a method.

Method and controller for exhaust gas temperature control

A method and a device are described for controlling an internal combustion engine. On the basis of the comparison of a setpoint value with an actual value for a variable that characterizes the supplied oxygen quantity, an actuating variable is predefined for controlling an actuating element that influences the fuel quantity conducted to the internal combustion engine and/or the oxygen quantity supplied to the internal combustion engine. The actual value and/or the setpoint value are/is normalized to a reference value.
