A redundancy system for a distributed antenna system is provided. The system includes a first communication link, a second communication link, a first communication node and a second communication node. The first communication link traverses first path. The second communication link traverses a second path. The second path is spatially separated from the first path. The first communication node is communicatively coupled to transmit the same signal through both the first communication link and the second communication link. The second communication node has a receiver system that is communicatively coupled to receive the signals transmitted through the first and second communication links. The receiver system is configured to synchronize delay and phase differences between the received signals and then combine the signals together to generate a single output.

Systems and methods for enhancing coverage of repeater systems by time-division beamforming are provided. A repeater system includes an interface configured to communicate signals with a base station and a phased antenna array. The phased antenna array includes a plurality of antenna elements, wherein the phased antenna array is configured to generate a beam in a plurality of predefined directions and wirelessly communicate signals with user equipment in a coverage area of the phased antenna array. The repeater system further includes a beamforming circuit communicatively coupled to the phased antenna array, wherein the beamforming circuit is configured to adjust a direction of the beam generated by the phased antenna array to correspond to one of the plurality of predefined directions at a particular time according to a schedule.

Coverage enhancement for distributed antenna systems and repeaters by time-division beamforming

A local roaming cell system for a mobile communication coverage area is disclosed. The system comprises: a RF head end that communicates with a plurality of base stations via a plurality of wireless RF communication links, wherein the plurality of base stations are outside of the coverage area; a conversion and link aggregation circuit that demodulates and processes downlink base station signals associated with at least two of the plurality of base stations by link aggregation to obtain a downlink signal comprising communications data extracted from the downlink base station signals; a roaming base station that modulates portions of the downlink signal to provide a local communication cell within in the coverage area to a plurality of user terminals. A first of the user terminals communicates via the roaming base station with a different one of the plurality of base stations than a second of user terminals.

System and method for a mobile communication coverage area

In an embodiment, a signal repeater includes a master unit and a remote unit that are optically coupled to one another by, e.g., an optical fiber. The master unit includes master-unit circuitry configured to receive an input electrical signal from a satellite-signal receive antenna, and to convert the input electrical signal into an optical signal. And the remote unit includes remote-unit circuitry configured to convert the optical signal into an intermediate electrical signal, to amplify the intermediate electrical signal to generate an output electrical signal, and to couple the output electrical signal to a retransmission antenna. Because an optical channel, such as an optical fiber, typically attenuates an optical signal significantly less per unit of distance than a coaxial cable attenuates an electrical signal, such a signal repeater allows a satellite receive antenna to be located at a significant distance from a retransmit antenna.

A mobile testing system for optimizing wireless coverage in a distributed antenna system is disclosed. In some aspects, the mobile testing system includes a measurement receiver that can determine signal levels for a respective signals communicated via the distributed antenna system. A processing device of the mobile testing system can identify a subset of the signals by decoding a respective identifier encoded in each of the subset of signals. The identifiers specify that the subset of signals is targeted to at least one coverage zone in which the mobile testing system is located. A subset of signal levels is obtained by the measurement receiver that corresponds to each of the subset of signals. The processing device can generate coverage contour data based on the subset of signal levels that describes signal coverage for at least one coverage zone.

Optimization system for distributed antenna system

Certain aspects are directed to a base station router for use within an analog distributed antenna system. The base station router comprises circuitry configured to: receive digital signals representing radio frequency channels from at least one base station; convert the digital signals to analog radio frequency signals; and communicate analog signals derived from the analog radio frequency signals to a plurality of remote antenna units of the analog distributed antenna system using analog communication links, the analog signals used for transmission of the analog radio frequency signals at each of a plurality of coverage zones at an antenna associated with each remote antenna unit of the plurality of remote antenna units.

Certain aspects are directed to a configuration sub-system for telecommunication systems. The configuration sub-system can include a test signal generator, a power measurement device, at least one additional power measurement device, and a controller. The test signal generator can be integrated into components of a telecommunication system. The test signal generator can provide a test signal to a signal path of the telecommunication system. The power measurement device and the additional power measurement device can respectively be integrated into different components of the telecommunication system. The power measurement device and the additional power measurement device can respectively measure the power of the test signal at different measurement points in the signal path. The controller can normalize signals transmitted via the telecommunication system by adjusting a path gain for the signal path based on measurements from the power measurement device and the additional power measurement device.

Configuration sub-system for telecommunication systems

One embodiment is directed to a distributed antenna system (DAS) configured to cause a remote antenna unit deployed near a railroad track to operate in a low-power and/or muted operational state. While the remote antenna unit is operating in the low-power and/or muted operational state, the DAS determines if a train is sufficiently close to a coverage area of the remote antenna unit to trigger a change in an operational state of the remote antenna unit. In response to such a determination, the DAS causes the remote antenna unit to operate in a normal operational state. While the remote antenna unit is operating in the normal operational state, the DAS determines if the train has exited the coverage area of the remote antenna unit. In response to such a determination, the DAS causes the remote antenna unit to operate in the low-power and/or muted operational state.

Distributed antenna system for use along train track

A master unit and a remote unit is provided for a multiband transmission system for distributing and combining signals of at least one wireless communication network and at least one digital network. A reference frequency generator is arranged in the master unit, the reference frequency generator being designed to clock a master modem for converting the signals of the at least one digital network. The reference frequency signal emitted by the reference frequency signal is restored via a reference frequency receiver and is used for closing a remote modem that is located there for demodulation.

Repeater systems and methods are disclosed. In one embodiment, a repeater system located within a coverage area comprises: a host configured to combine multiple downlink signals from multiple communication sources located outside the coverage area into a first combined downlink signal; at least one remote coupled to the host and configured to transmit the first combined downlink signal as a second downlink RF communication signal to terminals within the coverage area. The at least one remote is configured to produce a combined uplink signal from multiple uplink signals received through multiple communication links from the terminals, and configured to forward the combined uplink signal to the host. The host produces multiple signals from the combined uplink signal for transmission to the multiple communication sources, wherein a first of the plurality of terminals communicates with a different one of the multiple communication sources than a second of the plurality of terminals.

Repeater system and method

Systems and methods are provided for automatically detecting passive components in communications systems using radio frequency identification ('RFID') tags. A coupling circuit is provided in a system between a communications network and an RFID tag. The RFID tag is associated with a passive element of a distributed antenna system ('DAS'). The coupling circuit can allow an RFID signal received from an RFID transmitter over the communications network to be transported to the RFID tag. The coupling circuit can substantially prevent mobile communication signals on the communications network from being transported to the RFID tag.

Detecting passive RF components using radio frequency identification tags

A distributed antenna system is provided for communicating with a plurality of base stations. The distributed antenna system includes a system controller and a master unit communicating with at least one of the plurality of base stations. A remote unit communicates over a high data rate media with the master unit and/or a downstream remote unit. Alternatively, the distributed antenna system includes a controller and a digital time/space crosspoint switch controlled by the controller. A digitizing transceiver is in communication with the digital time/space crosspoint switch. The crosspoint switch is configured to transmit and receive digital data through the digitizing transceiver.

A method includes: receiving MIMO channel signals at original MIMO frequency from signal source(s) at master unit of DAS, set(s) of the MIMO channel signals including first MIMO channel signal and second MIMO channel signal; generating local oscillator signal at master unit; frequency converting first MIMO channel signal(s) and second MIMO channel signal(s) from original MIMO frequency to different frequency different from first legacy service frequency band using local oscillator signal at master unit; combining first MIMO channel signal, second MIMO channel signal, and local oscillator signal into combined signal at master unit; transmitting combined signal across optical link to remote unit; processing first MIMO channel signal and/or second MIMO channel signal at remote unit; and frequency converting converted MIMO channel signal(s) from different frequency different from first legacy service frequency band back to original MIMO frequency for transmission over antenna(s).

Certain aspects involve an interface device for a distributed antenna system ('DAS'). In some aspects, the interface device can include an interface, a power detector, and a processor. The interface can include one or more ports for communicatively coupling the interface device to a base station and a switch that is switchable between first and second configurations. The first configuration connects a port to a downlink path of the DAS, and the second configuration connects the port to a signal reflection path. The processor can switch the switch between the first and second configurations based on a signal power measured by the power detector at the port. In other aspects, the interface device can include additional ports and termination loads. The processor can cause a signal path to be connected to a termination load instead of a port based on the port being disconnected from a unit of the DAS.
