A method for operating a braking system of a vehicle having at least one brake-able wheel, a braking force variable, which represents a braking force, of a braking device associated with the wheel being increased during a braking operation until a locking tendency of the wheel is recognized, and then reduced to a certain value. It is provided that the braking force variable is subsequently set to a setpoint braking force variable, which corresponds to a selectable portion of the braking force variable present at the recognition of the locking tendency, for a certain time period. Also described is a control unit for implementing the method.

Method for operating a braking system and a corresponding control unit

A method of stabilizing a vehicle equipped with a slip-controlled brake system is described. This is done by determining the wheel speeds of the individual wheels of the vehicle. For at least one wheel, a wheel speed setpoint is determined. For the at least one wheel, a deviation quantity describing the deviation between the wheel speed determined for that wheel and the setpoint is determined. To stabilize the vehicle, actuators assigned to the at least one wheel are activated as a function of this deviation quantity.

Thus, the use of a panic detection is also possible in so-called &ldquo;low-cost braking systems&rdquo;.

A method and a device for adjusting a braking action at wheels of a motor vehicle are described. In response to a detected &mgr;-split situation, a reduction of the braking action at a low wheel of a rear axle is brought about as a function of a reduction of the braking action at a same-side wheel of a front axle. One variant of the method and device no braking action is applied to the low wheel of the rear axle. As a result of the two variants, the low wheel of the rear axle, which is at a side that has a lower coefficient of friction and does not significantly contribute to the overall braking action, is rendered virtually without brake pressure and can therefore function as a reference variable, i.e., vehicle reference velocity. As a result, especially in light commercial vehicles, the braking distances are shorter in response to braking actions in a &mgr;-split while maintaining stable driving performance during the entire braking action.

In a method of controlling a braking system in a vehicle, the action of the brakes is distributed between at least one front and one rear wheel by adjusting at least the braking pressure in the brakes on one of the rear wheels in order to establish a difference between the braking pressure on the front wheel and that on the rear wheel. The difference established between the braking pressure on the front wheel and that on the rear wheel is decreased in the presence of a prescribable condition. The presence of the prescribable condition depends at least on a detected parameter that represents the longitudinal velocity of the vehicle, and the established difference is continuously decreased. The time at which the level of pressure on the rear-wheel brake can be safely equalized to that of the pressure on the front-wheel brake can be reliably determined because the time at which the braking-force distribution that enhances safe driving is no longer necessary is narrowly related to the longitudinal velocity of the vehicle. Furthermore, the continuous equalization of pressure reduces or eliminates the reaction perceived in the brake pedal by the driver and increases driving comfort.
