The invention relates to a device for determining and/or monitoring filling of a product or the position of the boundary surface between two media or phases in a container. The device comprises a signal generating unit that generates high-frequency measuring signals, an injection unit and a surface waveguide, wherein the measuring signals are injected into the surface waveguide by means of the injection unit and directed toward the filling product via the surface waveguide. The device also comprises a receiver/evaluation unit, which directly or indirectly determines filling of the product or the position of the boundary surface in the container during the running time of the measuring signals reflected on the surface or boundary surface of the filling product. The invention aims at providing a device which is configured in such a way that parasitic voltages are effectively diverted. This is achieved in that the surface waveguide is connected to a frame potential by means of a coupling.

Method for determining and/or monitoring filling of a product in a container

The invention relates to a device for determining the filling level of a filling material in a container. The device has a signal-generating unit, which generates electromagnetic measuring signals, a transceiver unit, which emits the measuring signals via an antenna in the direction of the surface of the filling material and which receives the echo signals reflected at the surface of the filling material, the antenna comprising a waveguide which widens in the direction of emission into a cavity of a defined shape, and an evaluation unit which determines the filling level in the container from the propagation time of the measuring signals. At least one dielectric filling material is provided which at least partially fills up the waveguide, and which virtually completely fills up the widened cavity of the antenna.

Device for determining the filling level of a filling material in a container

The invention relates to a device for emitting high-frequency signals, comprising a signal generation unit, a signaling line, an emission cable and an antenna configured as a circular waveguide, said antenna being sealed in an end section by a rear wall. According to the invention, the signal generation unit creates the high-frequency signals, the signaling line conducts the high-frequency signals along the emission cable and said emission cable projects into the interior of the antenna and is positioned approximately parallel to the rear wall. The invention aims to provide a device for emitting electromagnetic waves, which is characterized by optimized emission characteristics. To achieve this, the distance (Z) between the emission cable and the rear wall of the antenna is approximately &lgr;/6, whereby &lgr; is the wavelength of the high-frequency signals borne by the antenna.

The invention relates to a device for determining the fill level of a filling substance in a container. The device includes a signal generator unit which generates high-frequency signals, a transmitter/receiver pair which transmits the signals via an antenna and receives the signals which have been reflected on the surface of the filling substance. A coaxial line is also included which has an inner conductor and an outer conductor for bearing the signals, and an evaluation unit which determines the fill level in the container using the transit time of the signals. The antenna has a wave duct which is delimited by a rear wall. A send line is provided on the rear wall of the wave duct, which runs substantially within the wave duct, whereby a first end section of the send line is connected to the inner conductor of the coaxial line.

This level measuring instrument which operates with microwaves, has a radiation characteristic with a pronounced forward lobe and can be used to transmit and/or receive microwaves with a large frequency bandwidth. A housing section is designed as a waveguide short-circuited at one side and one end by a rear wall, and is virtually completely filled with an insert made of a dielectric. An exciter element, projects into the housing section and is connected to a microwave source. An antenna adjoins the housing section, for transmitting and/or receiving microwaves. A gap is arranged in the insert between the exciter element and the antenna. The gap forms a filter which is essentially non-transparent to higher modes of the waveguide.

A level measuring device using microwaves comprises an antenna for sending transmitted waves toward the surface of a material whose level is to be measured, and for the reception of echo waves resulting from reflection at the surface, and a receiving and evaluating circuit which derives from the echo waves received by the antenna an echo function representative of the echo amplitudes as a function of the distance and determines from the echo function the transit time of the microwaves from the antenna to the surface of the material and therefrom the distance of the surface of the material from the antenna.
