Linear alkyl esters and their use in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical compositions

Described herein are mixed ethers and cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparations comprising mixed ethers. Certain mixed ethers have a melting range between &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. and +70&#xb0; C., wherein the width of the melting range comprises at least 30 temperature degrees and the maximum of the melting range is 35 &#xb1;10&#xb0; C. These mixed ethers are obtainable for example by condensation reaction of a) 25 to 90% by weight of unbranched fatty alcohols with a chain length of 12 to 19 carbon atoms; b) 5 to 50 by weight of isostearyl alcohol; c) 0 to 35% by weight of a fatty alcohol with a chain length of 20 and/or 22 carbon atoms; and d) 0 to 25% by weight of a fatty alcohol having 8 and/or 10 carbon atoms.

Mixed ethers and uses thereof

The invention relates to compounds of the general formula (I), where Ris a branched alkyl(ene) radical having from 10 to 22 carbon atoms and having at least one branch in position 1, 2, 3 or 4 relative to the oxygen atom, Ris a linear or branched alkyl(ene) radical having from 1 to 13 carbon atoms and Rand Rare selected so that the total number of carbon atoms in formula (I) is from 11 to 23. The invention is directed to a mixture of esters according to the general formula (I), R&#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O&#x2014;R, wherein Ris an alkyl moiety with 7 to 9 carbon atoms and wherein Ris a an alkyl moiety with 8 to 10 carbon atoms, wherein the mixture comprises 5 to 60 weight-% of ester of the general formula (I), wherein Ris an alkyl moiety with 9 carbon atoms, based on the total amount of esters according to formula (I) and/or wherein the mixture comprises 5 to 60 weight-% of ester of the general formula (I), wherein Ris an alkyl moiety with 10 carbon atoms, based on the total amount of esters according to formula (I). The invention is further directed to cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical compositions comprising such esters and processes for the production of such esters.

Ester mixtures and compositions comprising such ester mixtures

The disclosed invention provides wax dispersions with an average particle size of 0.5 to 100 &#x3bc;m containing (a) a wax phase with a melting point above 25&#xb0; C. which contains at least one oil or wax component selected from dialkyl(ene) ethers, dialkyl(ene) carbonates, dicarboxylic acids, hydroxyfatty alcohols, and mixtures thereof and at least one emulsifier, and (b) a water phase. The wax dispersions are particularly useful as a basis for cosmetic preparations and, more particularly, for impregnating and wetting utility and sanitary wipes used for personal hygiene and body care.
