A method of folding a gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises the following steps: unfolding the gas bag between a base and a hold-down, a traction envelope extending around the gas bag and being passed through the hold-down at a first end, a first lead-through of the traction envelope through the hold-down being contoured so as to correspond to that required of the gas bag when folded; pulling out the traction envelope by means of the first end from a space between the base and the hold-down such that the gas bag is pushed together inside the traction envelope. There is further proposed a gas bag folded by such method.

Method of folding a gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system and folded gas bag

A gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system has a covering forming a main chamber of the gas bag, with a passage opening, and an inner bag with an inflow opening and at least one ventilation opening. An edge of the inflow opening of the inner bag is connected with an edge of the passage opening and the gas bag has in a region of the connection of covering and inner bag a constriction for the inner bag. In a folded state of the gas bag, the inner bag is turned in into an interior of the covering and is able to emerge from the covering through the passage opening during an inflation of the gas bag.

Gas bag

A method of folding a gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises the following steps: first, the gas bag is unfolded between a base and an opposing surface. A spacing is provided between the base and the opposing surface, which corresponds to a height of a housing into which the gas bag is to be inserted after folding. Then, a folding funnel is provided which comprises one end having a large cross-section and one end having a small cross-section, the large cross-section being larger than or equal to a cross-section of the gas bag when unfolded between the base and the opposing surface, and the small cross-section corresponding to a cross-section of the housing; beginning with its large cross-section. Finally, the folding funnel is placed over the unfolded gas bag and moved relative thereto such that the gas bag is pushed together on the base by the folding funnel to the small cross-section.

An apparatus for folding an airbag for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a base for the airbag to be folded, a cover for the airbag, and a flexible element that is arranged between the base and the cover and has first and second ends. The first end of the flexible element is held between the base and the cover. The apparatus further comprises a traction means that acts upon the second end of the flexible element, and a pressure generating means with which the airbag can be acted upon with compressed gas. The invention further relates to a method of folding an airbag and making use of such an apparatus. Still further, the invention relates to a folded airbag produced by such a method.

Apparatus and method for folding an airbag as well as a folded airbag

The invention relates to a gas bag module comprising a gas bag with a gas bag wall which has a front and a rear wall section. A depression is provided which has a mouth and runs in an inflated state of the gas bag from the front wall section to the rear wall section, which depression is formed in that a part of the gas bag wall is prevented from an unimpeded movement away from the module on unfolding of the gas bag. The module further comprises at least one closure piece which is fastened to the gas bag wall such that in the inflated state it moves in front of the mouth of the depression and closes the depression.

Gas bag module

A gas bag module comprises a gas bag which has a front wall for the impact of an occupant. The gas bag is formed by a gas bag wall of several fabric parts. At least one of the fabric parts forms the front wall having an opening from which, in an inflated state of the gas bag, a depression originates, which is formed in that a center section of the gas bag wall on inflation is prevented from a free movement and is held back. The gas bag has around the depression an annular chamber which is to be filled. The opening is constructed in a slit shape.

The invention relates to a gas bag module comprising a gas bag including a gas bag wall which has a front and a rear wall section and including at least one chamber. The gas bag further comprises an indentation running from the front wall section in an inflated state in a direction toward the rear wall section. The indentation is formed in that a part of the gas bag wall is prevented from an unimpeded movement towards outside of the module on unfolding of the gas bag. The gas bag, in a region of a mouth of the indentation, has a bubble-like inflatable extension in flow connection with the at least one chamber of the gas bag, which extension closes the indentation.

The invention relates to a gas bag module comprising a gas bag, an outer contour of the gas bag being defined by a gas bag wall which has a front wall for the impact of an occupant with a centric opening as a transition to an indentation in the gas bag. The indentation is formed in that during inflation a center portion of the gas bag wall is prevented from freely moving and is restrained. A closure part is provided which encloses one of the indentation and the opening and engages the gas bag wall. A traction device is provided which is connected with the closure part. The traction device is attached such that due to a deployment of the gas bag a tensile force is exerted on the traction device and the tensile force is passed on to the closure part, and one of the indentation and the opening is at least partly closed.

A textile material blank is proposed for the manufacture of an air bag for air bag modules to be installed in vehicles as an impact protection device for vehicle occupants. The airbag module has an airbag carrier. The blank has one or more connecting flaps (,), either formed integrally with the blank (,) or attached to it, for the purpose of attaching the air bag to the airbag carrier.

Air bag and air bag attachment

A horn switch on a vehicle includes an actuator (,) connected to the steering wheel via webs (,) resiliently deflectable transversely to said steering wheel axis. The actuator is normally spaced from a contact foil and, when actuated, urges on the contact foil to establish an electrical contact between opposed contact areas of the foil.

Device for actuating an electrical contactor

An airbag module for the passenger side of a vehicle with a diffusor pipe, a gas generator accommodated in and connected to the diffusor pipe, a folded-together air sack accommodated outside of and fastened to the diffusor pipe, a holder around the air sack, and cover components tensioned between a flange at one end of the gas generator or of a generator disk and the ends of the diffusor pipe and securely tensioning the edges of a loop that fits over the diffusor pipe and secures the air sack. The air sack around the holder essentially comprises a sack-like pouch of textile material around the diffusor pipe with two partly overlapping pieces attached to and detachable from each other and concealing the opening that the unfolding air sack emerges through.

Passenger-side airbag module

The invention concerns an airbag module for the passenger seat in a motor vehicle. The module is characterized by a cylindrical compressed-gas reservoir (1), a tube (2) that encloses the reservoir (1) and has gas-outlet openings (3) distributed along it, two lateral components (4) that are stamped out of sheetmetal and can be forced together along with the tube (2) by the compressed-gas reservoir (1), and an air sack (5) that is provided with a section enclosing the tube (2), that is secured to the tube (2) by means similar to tensioning straps, and that is folded over the tube (2).

Airbag module for passenger seat

A lid (1) for an airbag accommodated in the instrument panel of a motor vehicle. For economy and simplicity of manufacture it is made of a relatively hard plastic. It is characterized in that it comprises a lower layer (2) of soft and resilient plastic and an outer layer (3) of hard plastic and in that both layers (2 & 3) are essentially fastened together adhering totally surface to surface. The outer layer (3) can be made of a plastic that matches the material of the surface of the instrument panel in appearance, feel, and acoustics.

Airbag lid

An assembly for manufacturing an airbag module for the passenger seat in a motor vehicle having a tubular element that accommodates a cylindrical reservoir of compressed gas and two identically shaped frontal components in the form of segments of extruded section that can be forced like hose clips against the tubular element such as to laterally demarcate space for accommodating a folded airbag against the tubular element. The upper area of the frontal components in one embodiment is openwork. Auxiliary tubes can be tensioned between the frontal components. A web of material that wraps around the tubular element can be secured to the auxiliary tubes, laterally demarcating the space for accommodating the airbag paralleling the axis of the tubular element.

Assembly for an airbag module

A module for installing a passenger airbag, having a trough-like housing (1). The housing essentially comprises a U-shaped base (2) and two essentially flat ends (3). The module also includes a gas generator (4) and a gas sack (5). The gas sack is folded into the housing over the gas generator, One marginal section (6) of the gas sack (5) is wrapped outward around the edge (7) of the housing (1) all the way around. The marginal section (6) is looped along the base (2) around connecting rods (8). The connecting rods secure the ends (3) to the base (2) and extend within a groove-like inward-opening depression (9) in the base (2). A continuous tensioning band (10) attaches the marginal section (6) of the gas sack (5) to the outside of the housing (1) between the edge (7) of the housing and the connecting rods (8), constituting a force-application attachment.
