The invention relates to a brush seal, in particular for the sealing of gaps occurring in turbomachines, including a plurality of individual fibers, individual wires or bundles of individual fibers or wires, wherein, in each case, at least two individual fibers or wires, and/or at least two fiber bundles or wire bundles are braided or twisted into a fiber or wire package. In addition, the invention relates to a method for producing a brush seal.

A sealing system and method is disclosed. The sealing system includes a brush sealing element and an accommodating element with an accommodating chamber. The brush sealing element is disposed in the accommodating chamber and a bendable strap is disposed on the accommodating element. The method includes fastening the brush sealing element in the accommodating chamber of the accommodating element. The accommodating element is arranged in a groove of a housing segment and a position of the accommodating element is secured on the housing element by bending the strap of the accommodating element to engage with a side wall of the housing segment.

A brush seal and a method for mounting a brush seal is disclosed. The brush seal includes a sealing element provided with a plurality of filaments or wires that are joined at a filament or wire end to form a filament or wire bundle and a clamp-like sealing housing for receiving and fixing the filament or wire end between a first and a second limb and for fixing the brush seal in a mounting recess of a housing. A free end of the filament or wire bundle of the sealing element is clamped between a partial area of an inner contour of the second limb that is adjacent to a region of an outlet opening of the mounting recess of the housing and an area of the outlet opening that is opposite from the partial area.

An arrangement for a non-hermetic seal between a stator and a rotor of a turbomachine in the root region of guide blades belonging to the stator. The arrangement includes a brush sealing ring which is mounted on the guide blades via a spoke centering means and whose bristles together with a rotating sealing surface form a fluid barrier which is permeable in a defined manner. A brush seal (1, 101) seals a circumferential gap (S.sub.1) between two relatively rotatable machine components (2, 102; 3, 103), such as the rotor or a shaft and a stator of a fluid flow machine, such as a gas turbine engine. A plurality of seal bristles (4, 104) are fixed in a bristle holder (5) in an annular shape, and are mounted on the stator (3, 103) so that the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend toward and provide a seal against a seal surface (9, 109) of the rotor (2, 102). Each bristle includes a middle body portion (4A) that is tilted at a first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) in the circumferential direction following the rotation direction, and the free bristle end (7, 107) is bent or angled relative to the tilted body portion (4A) so as to extend at a second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) which is smaller than the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1). Preferably, the first tilt angle (.alpha..sub.1) is in the range from 30.degree. to 60.degree., while the second tilt angle (.alpha..sub.2) is in the range from 0.degree. to 15.degree.. The bristles may further be tilted in an axial direction at an angle (.beta.) relative to a radially extending plane. Since the free bristle ends (7, 107) extend substantially perpendicularly to the seal surface (9, 109), the seal effectiveness and the elastic resiliency of the brush seal are maintained, and the bristles are not damaged, independent of the rotation direction of the rotor.
