An apparatus and method to recover heat from and cool flue gases. As shown in FIG., a condenseris provided having two packed beds () and separate condensate loops. The condensate loops are configured such that first packed bedmaximizes heat recovery from flue gasand second packed bedmaximizes cooling of flue gas. Temperature differences between entry flue gasand recovered condensateare minimized while temperatures differences between exit flue gasand return condensateis also minimized.

An apparatus and method to clean flue gases. As shown in FIG., a condenseris provided having two packed beds () and two condensate loops. The condensate loops are configured such that anti-corrosive agent () may injected. Corrosives are removed from flue gases as condensate containing anti-corrosive agents passes over the flue gases.

Condenser and method for cleaning flue gases

A fabric filter () has at least a first compartment () and a second compartment (). A hopper () is adapted for fluidisation of dust collected in the compartments () to form a bed () of fluidised dust. A partition wall () is located between the compartments () to separate them from each other. A passage () is formed at a lower end () of the partition wall () such that fluidised dust may pass through said passage (). The partition wall () is arranged to extend into the bed () of fluidised dust for forming a seal () even when one of the compartments () has been shut off. When shutting off a compartment () the inlets and outlets to that compartment () are closed and the dust in the hopper () is fluidised to provide a seal () between the compartments ().

In a method of separating gaseous pollutants from hot process gases, the process gases are passed through a contact reactor (), in which an absorbent material in a moistened state is introduced to convert the gaseous pollutants into separable dust. The dust is separated in a dust separator (). The separated dust is cooled in a first step by being brought into direct contact with a cooling fluid. In a second step, the cooled dust is mixed with a gas containing water vapour, said gas having a saturation temperature that is higher than the temperature of the cooled dust. The dust moistened by condensation of the water vapour is introduced into the contact reactor () to be mixed with the process gases. A mixer () for moistening of absorbent material has a first end () and a second end () and is divided into two zones. A first zone is a cooling zone () located at the first end (). A second zone is a moistening zone () located at the second end ().
