A pigment contains one or more substantially spherical-shaped beads. Each substantially spherical-shaped bead includes one or more high aspect ratio particles encapsulated within an encapsulating material. Resinous compositions containing this pigment and a plastic, for example a polycarbonate, have a flowline-free colored, sparkling and/or metallescent appearance.

Embodiments of this invention comprise a pigment comprising one or more substantially spherical-shaped beads, wherein each substantially spherical-shaped bead comprises one or more high aspect ratio particles encapsulated within an encapsulating material. A method and system are disclosed for enabling design of a product such as a colored plastic having a visual effect caused by an additive. In one embodiment, a user such as a designer at a first computing unit is able to interact with a second computing unit operable to provide a generally accurate representation of the product having the visual effect. Desirably, the user inputs information relating to the additive such as a flake material or a diffuser material and the system provides a representation displayable on a display or monitor of the first computing unit of the product having the visual effect based on the information relating to the additive. The design of the product having the visual effect is advantageously stored on the second computing unit and accessible by at least one second user such as a marketer or manufacturer for review of the design. Further, the users can order plaques of the designed product having the visual effect so that a comparison of the product having the visual effect to actual samples of the product can be made before a production order is placed.

An improved process of producing a predetermined textured surface on a polypropylene film is disclosed including the steps of extruding the polypropylene into a stalk, cooling the stalk to crystallize the polypropylene, passing the stalk through a heating zone and biaxially stretching the stalk into a thin film. The stalk emanating from the extruder has a section primarily temperature controlled and correlated to the stalk velocity to cause extensive, continuous and uniform spherulite formation with a predominantly type III polypropylene crystal structure on the outer surface of the stalk, which upon subsequent inflation of the stalk causes the desired texture to occur.

An antifoam composition is introduced as an aerosol into the main gas stream entering a gas-liquid separation tower. The main gas stream carries the small aerosol particles up the tower through the sieve-like separation trays and the water moving over the plurality of trays. The movement of the antifoam carried in the gas stream to the top of the tower is many times more rapid than the transit of liquid down the tower in countercurrent movement thereto. For antifoam particle sizes in the preferred range, movement of the antifoam continues unabated through a long series of trays in the tower to effectively inhibit foam formation therein.
